DNA information

Anyone have experience with any company that offers a DNA analysis.
My son used CRI Genetics which uncovered surprising information about his past relatives and himself.

Don't trust em, no way in hell I'd pay someone to take the most valuable information I own. I cringe anytime I hear people sending in their genetics to databases under the guise of finding out family history.

Last time I did a genetic test they said I am 50% Hispanic and 50% German Shepard.

I did 23 and Me. Mine came back with nearly 3% Neanderthal DNA. Which might explain a few things...

Lol. My understanding single digit results are meaningless.

Not to mention 23andme got their advertising shut down by the FDA for data breeches. I have plenty of pause for concern.

just because a company doesn't share your data, doesn't stop them using it internally. Not all of them are secure though, there are definitely some that allow third party access.

And then you have to look at what groups own these businesses. It's a rabbit hole.

All it takes is one update to the user agreement that noone ever reads and your security is gone.

The government already had my DNA, so I wasn’t concerned when I took advantage of a 23 and Me promotional offer. The health information was spot on to my family history. I have over 200 Neanderthal alleles and I discovered I’m 10% African.

Overall, I was pleased with the results and the value for the price paid.

I am the kind of guy that reads terms and conditions.

When my mom died I had this yearning to learn more about my family history. I researched all of the major front running companies and found that 23 and me was the only one that protected my DNA, I was even offered the ability to “delete” it from their system so it wasn’t held in their database once the analysis was done.

Ancestry dna test terms and conditions gives them 100% rights to sell your DNA to the highest bidder. That frightens the hell out of me.

There will be future ramifications that come from this DNA farming and I sincerely hope they won’t be as bad as I envision in my head.

That being said, 23 and me had a course of action to protect my DNA when I did it and the US government already has my DNA as well.

I truly enjoyed meeting relatives I never knew existed and learning more about my lineage from the 23 and me test.

READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS before you hand over ANY data this day and age, ESPECIALLY your most important data.

I’ve never considered it, but I know our family roots go back to the early 1600’s Switzerland through a journal my family keeps.

Blackstone and China.
Blackstone owns the largest consumer bio database AFAIK , China has aspirations of superseding.

Us Intelligence officials have been ringing alarm bells for years

In China problems

Global dna collection

Blackstone purchases ancestry

Honestly surprises me that the government doesn't restrict servicemen and women as well as government officials from utilizing these services. Seems like an issue of national security to me.
