Basic Communication during a transaction.

So this is a bit of a rant. I see a ton of posts on here about all the games ADs will play. I hear about how the salespeople can be unhelpful to downright rude. I hear about how some have limited product knowledge and seem to have been selling mobile phones or something the day before.

Well I am having a very aggravating "purchase" experience, but not from an AD, from a seller here on the forum. I am not going to call them out or even the watch, but I would like to share the story.

Lets start off with the for sale post. Very few pictures and only about two sentences of information leaving lots of questions to be asked. I contact the seller with just a couple of basic questions. I get VERY short answers and only to select questions. I request pictures and not only have I not received any pictures but not even an acknowledgement to the request. Because the seller is located in another country (time zone) return emails take longer (its night there when day here) which only makes the incomplete responses that much more frustrating. I am about to just give up and move on.

Here is my takeaway. We are on a site dealing in everything Rolex and watches. Put the basics out there of what you are selling. Its not that hard. Many basic questions should be anticipated and answered in the ad. Respond to the questions that are asked. YOU are the one who put it for sale. Its like you dont want to sell it. I am talking about BASICS here, very basic questions. Very frustrating.

Well, at least you've eliminated one potential seller. Time to move on to the next one.

As a seller, I have listed my watch with every single relevant detail but all the PM that came in asked for information that was already provided for in the listing. One PM even ask what is the colour of the dial even though there are 8 pictures of the watch and 5 on dial side. It's incredible but that could explain why sellers don't put in all the information if they sell many watches concurrently.

Without sharing more info on what questions you did ask it’s hard to judge.
I am sure that they have a lot of experiences with people inquiring the most obvious of things.
If the sellers short description is something like: new, unworn with B&P.
What is there to ask more ?
Can’t blame them for short answers nor for being in a different time zone.

Doesn’t make you feel good just move on to the next.

Every seller is going to be different. Find one that will give you the treatment or the service you expect.

I have dealt with most of the trusted sellers on here with nothing but positive things to share. But there are a few that simply won’t deal with a potential customer that asks a lot of questions (like me)

This month, I bought two watches, one from a trusted based out of NJ. I asked a million questions and I got a million replies. Smooth deal despite having the crappiest picture in the world on the original post.

Second trusted seller from Tennessee completely ghosted me after I asked about tool marking or dings on lugs from strap changes.

No big deal. Found the watch elsewhere and while I’m sure losing me as a customer won’t affect his income for 2023, I’ll know to skip right over any future listings of his.

As a buyer, I’ll stick to the seller that will entertain and respect my style of buying.

As a seller, I’ll try my best to make accommodations, within reason, to a potential buyer.

I personally wouldn't even consider a watch that would have to be shipped overseas.

Mystery and delay are never a good sign. Plenty of good sellers on here to do business with.

Exactly this.....imagine that you wired this seller the money...then you have a real big problem with communication. Note to self....this is not a good thing.

There are far too many red flags to make it worthwhile, better just to walk away. It’s not as if there’s a shortage of decent sellers to work with!

Also remember, with an international sale, English may NOT be their first language. I have dealt with many American sellers/dealers whose grasp of English is questionable.

I agree with this. Having sold many times, not all sellers OR buyers are created equal. References and checks are super important.
