the salon operates a proper waitlist. My AD for example does not. So you need to be a good customer of an AD that doesnt operate a queue. There are some.

No way i would source a popular watch from the salon. Takes way too long.

That is my AD BTW... 5164, 5712, 5524 from them.

Otherwise if its just one of those two watches, the secondary market is a better choice even with the crazy premiums as there isnt another option.
I agree totally. Here in Singapore, one might find it easier to get the 5712 from the secondary market but not so the 5711.

As I am Italian - I also contacted 5-6 AD in Italy - outside the big cities - same stories - no one takes you on the waiting list.

Considering a pre-owned one - although prices are crazy high ... Visiting Hong Kong and Tokyo - wonder if it is cheaper there? Would they have better priced pre-owned? I assume impossible waitlists in those countries too?

Thanks for your thoughts...

you may consider the 5711R ? crazy nice and pricewise almost the same.

At this point, if I really wanted a 5711 and 5712 badly enough and no other Patek appeals to me that could be used to start an AD relationship, I would just pony up the premium and be done with it. No point in buying watches you don't actually want just for a shot at one at MSRP, if you have to take a bath on those pieces you buy then you pretty much end up at the same point but without a guarantee of one in your hands.

Thankfully, I am pretty happy with what I have and will continue to be happy if my 5712 doesn't materialize.

Awfully expensive for a 3-hand-date steel watch.

honestly thats where im at now with any more watches. Im waiting on a 5990, but i already have a collection im happy with. If i dont get it fine. I can always flip my 5712 for one.

Im actually stressing out about watches... allocations, getting in before price rises, availabliity. Its not fun anymore to try to add pieces. So basically im out either now or after the 5990, but thats it for the foreseeable future.

I tend to agree with it not being as fun anymore. I appreciate the exclusivity of being in the club, but these waitlists and premiums are a killer. Makes collecting a lot less fun. Fortunately, there are so many brands out there, the independents in particular, who really make it a point to cater to their customers.

I know this is a business, but if Rolex produced more Daytonas the madness would cease. Same with the Nautilus but we all know TS is not doing that.

I also think it's a shame that Patek is becoming only known for the 5711/12, especially in the younger crowd. With these crazy prices, why not add a few bucks and either consider going precious metal (5711R, 5712R) or just jump into the brand with one of their annual calendar offerings.

My first was the 5205R and I added the 5712r after I realized I wanted a more casual Patek. But the allure of the dress/classy nature of the brand was what drew me to being a part of the club, not the three hand SS sports watch. I can get that elsewhere no problem.

After my FPJ CB comes in I'm putting a brake on things. A hobby shouldn't be stressful, and that's what it's inducing in this crazy market. I've drove myself half crazy trying to find a 5712, and it shouldn't be like that. I've learned to accept if it happens then great, but if not, then no use wasting positive energy trying to get one any more. I can live perfectly happy without one.

2 years ago, a mate of mine paid $20.5k for his 5711 blue. I remember some of the other guys in the group also said the same exact words "awfully expensive for a basic SS watch". But he is the one laughing now

White metals aren’t as desirable in Asia, ie White gold/platinum. Yellow gold and rose gold sell very well. You can find deals on PM white pieces fairly often. I’ve added about 4 platinum watches to my collection as they were priced cheaper than gold and a little above steel prices (used of course.)

You won't find any deals on that one I can guarantee that.

It’s a generalized statement about pm white watches. Obviously the Patek in platinum plays in a different league.

In the US it is unlikely to land a 5711/12 unlesss you have a prior purchase history with the AD. My AD has no wait list, not sure he will even get one this year, he told me. If he gets one, will be offered to previous clientele. Simple as that.

I really hope that eventually the market drops the value of secondhand ss Nautilus (5711, 5712) one way or another... spending over inflated second hand prices that we are seeing now will not last forever and is getting ridiculous. Some buyers will surely see a depreciation in their investmensst one day.... just a thought. Unless they cease production and no more are manufactured making them unobtainable new.

Isn't this original platinum 5711 discontinued? At least that's what the Patek Salon in London told me.

It would be interesting to understand if Tokyo-based dealers are offering sellers higher prices, or whether these higher retail prices are reflective of their own higher costs of doing business with broadly normal margins.

?

details please. When? Across the Nautilus range only?
Is this in addition to the new price for the 5711 and 5712 (+20% march 1 + 5.5% + the 5% increase that already happened Sept 1)?
Confirmed by who?

it was around 5.5% last time too which went into effect september 1, 2017 but was across the entire range.... and we had one month notice of the change.
