Is the Sky Dweller’s movement really the most complex Rolex makes?

Let me start this thread by saying that I rally, really like the SS Sky D. Would be white for me. Or maybe black. Who cares. I love them both

And I also appreciate that the combination of an annual calander and second time zone are very clever and represent great value in SS for what you get.

But all this talk of the Sky D movement being the most complicated that Rolex makes? That being the case, why is the SS Sky D significantly cheaper than the SS YM2?

I’ve just read a thread about a supposed price increase for the SS Sky D and much talk about it being too cheap. But I don’t agree.

The Saros system whilst extremely clever is actually quite simple in operation. And the 24 hour wheel is fundamentally a function of simple engineering.

So I’d put it the forum that Rolex’s most complicated movement is actually that in the YM2 and that the Sky D is actually quite fairly priced for what you get and not the bargain that some would suggest?

Thoughts?

Even if we say the movements are of similar complicatedness, I think the functionality of an AC is far superior to that of the YM countdown timer so on that basis the price should be at least the same. I suspect the poor sales of the PMs made Rolex gun shy and underpriced this model. It was once in PM only so it was regarded by Rolex then as their flagship complication.

Totally agree Neil. It’s much more useful having a second time zone and an annual calander. Was thinking more from a technical perspective.

Ps. Is complicatedness even a word

Pps. I had expected a few more replies. Maybe I’ll go back to posting pictures

Ps. If any of the mods could change the thread title to “complex” from “complete” that would be appreciated

Oh, I think the Sky is a bargain-at retail anyway. And price-wise, it's almost a moot point as the Sky is selling at premium what the YM2 retails for.

And no YM I've ever seen has sold anywhere close to retail. (Not bashing the YM2, I have a ton of respect for this watch. I might even add that the flyback chronograph movement is one of the coolest on the planet.)

IMO - it’s not just the most sophisticated - it’s also the only movement that has a truly worldwide unique approach to its complication.

I also think Rolex are rather proud of the bezel command feature, as they should be, all in all it is a fabulous piece.

I think I made the word up but it seemed appropriate, and as it's the longest word I've ever spelt let's just say Susie Dent approves.
