Opposite of Seller’s Remorse?

Any cool stories wherein you sold or traded up to a piece and feel happy with the outcome?

Yes, 2017 I sold my patek 5522 for a tidy profit which at the time was potentially stupid as it soured my relationship with the dealer (understandably).

I did it for the sole purpose of freeing up funds to justify buying the watch I had always wanted but could not justify the price. I bought my patek 5164A with the proceeds.

I have loved and enjoyed that watch for 2 years and since then it has nearly doubled in value compared to what I paid. Zero regrets.

Today I would not be able to source that watch at msrp so I would have missed the boat had I not pounced.

if you are on the fence, wait, time will tell which feeling will win out. All kind of comparisons and feelings associated with flipping/selling and they are all individual, only you can decide what's right and when, for your situation.

This is a GREAT move.
The patek 5164A is ultimate all around watch.

Well played sir.

Yes back in 2010 I traded a 16610, 16710 and IWC diver (forget the model #) for a 1680 Red Submariner.... was my first big vintage piece.

Absolutely no regrets... it was beautiful and I enjoyed it way more then the other 3 combined.

I sold it in 2015 right before the huge run... that I do regret. Not for economic reasons I just miss that watch.

I recently traded up an IWC Pilot Chronograph Le Petite Prince for the IWC Vintage Aquatimer. Definitely the right move for me. I think the Vintage Aquatimer re-release is the perfect iteration of the Aquatimer which has had a confused design over the past decade or so.

I am however getting an IWC Pilot Chronograph Top Gun to replace the model I sold.

I traded a bunch of watches I never wore for a YG YMII and absolutely have no regrets. I love the watch and find it hard to rotate now.

I sold a few watches that weren't getting much wrist time to get my 116619LB. I couldn't have been happier

I just posted a post this morning about trading 4 for a Day-Date. I’ve also traded up a SS white dial Daytona for a ceramic white dial Daytona, a BLNR for a Bluesy, and a SS DJ41 for a two-tone DJ41.

In all cases, while I did have some minor doubts for a short while after on a couple of those, those doubts were fleeting and I do not regret a single flip.

About 15 years ago I traded a JLC Reverso TT + a Breitling Navatimer TT for a PP 3710 + some cash. Best trade I have ever done.

Upgrading to the 116610 Submariner Date from the 5-digit has been amazing. Also, purchasing a complete set 116234 (Silver Dial, Fluted and Super Jubilee) has also been a huge plus in my personal win column. Also, being genuine and putting time to build a relationship with my hometown AD has been excellent, as well. Sales Manager at AD is now a friend.

I sold a black DaytonaC and blue Skydweller and used the funds to buy my Patek 5726/1a earlier this year before Nautilus prices really went through the roof. No regrets, especially since I’ve recently acquired a 116519LN.

I traded my JC Deep Sea for a 116710BLNR and I couldn't be happier. It's my favorite watch I've ever owned. Was slightly hesitant at first, but the BLNR is really the one watch I wear everyday and will be a forever keeper. What made it better was trading with a good guy who was equally as happy with the trade.

Traded in a TAG and applied the value to my ALS Saxonia purchase. It was only worth $300, but considering I bought it about 18 years ago for about $700 and have not worn it for years, I was happy to have that $300 instead. Do not miss it one bit.

I graduated college in 2018 and my mother had saved up ~4K in order to gift me a graduation watch. After researching and visiting watch shops in the area I purchased a 37mm silver dialed grand seiko. An incredibly beautiful watch, but it continuously lost more and more time. Not wanting to deal with servicing for such a new watch and having heard the horror stories of GS servicing in New Jersey, I wanted to see what I could trade the watch for. They aren’t a Rolex AD, but they had a used blue dial explorer dial OP that was unworn with boxes and papers. The watch was originally purchased a few months before and the owner said he’d sell it for $3,750 which was an absolute steal. I’ve worn the OP every day since and it’s kept perfect time.

I sold all five of my Panerai's (127, 123, 088, 049, 040) in '05 & '06 for a profit.

Used the money to buy a new Sub for me, a new DJ for my wife, and two new Ducati's - a Paul Smart and Monster S2R1000. Both watches and the Paul Smart have gone up in value, so I'm still happy.

Just posted about this:

Traded a speedmaster, pelagos blue, seamaster blue, breitling superocean OP 39 white and $ for a mint 2009 16610 and a mint 2009 16600.

I'm glad about the move but I will miss the speedmaster and the OP 39 white (the others not so much).

I bought a Lange 1815 automatic about 10 years ago. Too light and no date, so I traded it with $ adjustment for Lange Richard Lange. Too big and heavy and no date. So I traded it with $ adjustment for Lange 1. That one is a keeper. I owned each one for a few years.
