Explorer I and II updates

I have been giving this matter a bit of thought...

Wouldn't the rational thing to do is to update the Explorer Line-up this way:

Update the Rolex Explorer this way:

1. Place it in a 40mm case (like the Milgauss) but with a brushed finish.
2. Maintain the brushed finished bracelet.
3. Give it a Maxi dial but with more dial color options.

Reason: The OP line-up moved up to 36mm... so it is now nearly identical to the Explorer I.

Update the Rolex Explorer II this way:

1. Super case.
2. Maxi dial.

Well, this is what that have been doing to their watches with a "similar" design (i.e. GMT Master II and Submariner).

I am not sure how the Exp would benefit from a maxi dial, but I think your close on the Exp II.

I personally do not care for the maxi-dial nor the supercase.

If the ExpII does get updated that way, I'll stick my ExpyII in the safe, wait a few years and make a ton of money

First and foremost, update the bracelet/clasp to the latest, something that should be done already.

I bought my Explorer I *because* of the smaller 36mm case size. If I wanted something in 40mm, I'd have about a dozen other models to choose from. Rolex needs something in a smaller size that's both sporty and dressy at the same time.

Bingo. I think the Explorer II is going to be very collectible in a decade or so.

I'm not sold on maxi-dial either, unless it's on a 5513.

I think all the Explorer II needs is a triplock crown.

I think the current model should be kept.

Respectfully, I disagree. The Explorer is timeless as it is. The only upgrade I would like to see is the new clasp (GMTIIc version but all brushed). Maybe add lume inside the numbers.

i think you are onto something. even i'm starting to think that larger watches are no longer just a fad. Rolex watches are getting bigger, and Rolex is definitely not a fad focused company. the OP is bigger, and like you said somewhere else, the Air-King's days at 34mm are probably numbered. and of course, we now have the new sea dweller and the huge day-date. time will tell...

Keep the Explorer I "timeless"

EXPII bound to be updated soon to new super case - hopefully they will just enlarge the Explorer a little :)
