Joined the Day-Date Club!
Hello TRF,
I’m a relatively new poster, but I wanted to share that I just joined the Day-Date club! I had my eye on the Day-Date since I started collecting, but it always seemed unobtainable; far more than I could ever see myself spending on a single piece. But as my collection grew I realized two things, and had an epiphany a couple weeks ago: 1) I had too many watches. I had to force myself to wear certain pieces out of guilt. 2) I had the funds I needed to buy a Day-Date tied up in unworn pieces. So last week I pulled the trigger, and traded my black Submariner Date, two-tone Datejust 41, Navitimer, Panerai 510, and a little cash to buy this Day-Date 40. It was a difficult decision, even though I rarely wore these 4. I think my collecting strategy had been focused more on quantity rather than quality. But now I’m stoked about this Day-Date, and shrinking the collection was cathartic in a way. So now my collection is down to a DD40, ceramic Daytona, SS BLRO, Bluesy, and a Speedmaster (and a couple dozen “entry” watches that started all this madness almost a decade ago). Anyway, on to the pics! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thank you all! I’m really happy with my collection as it stands now. I think I have a good mix of watch family/type, case styles, bracelets, and metals now.

Those motif dials are striking - Nice that Rolex dropped the Romans in the chapter ring.
Congrats! |

Beautiful watch. Congrats on the DD.
FWIW, given what you gave up and what you still have in the collection, I think you made a great move! |

Yeah, I am in love with this dial. I love the way the light plays off the sunburst on my Bluesy and my previous champagne DJ41, but this motif dial is just a whole ‘nother level. It’s got texture from the diagonals, it portrays a sunburst effect, and the color changes from silver to gold depending on the lighting. I debated this dial vs. the silver with deconstructed romans thinking I may want a more classic look, but man am I glad I went with this... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thanks! Out of the 4 that I gave up, I think I miss the Panerai the most. It was a 510 with sandwich dial, which I don’t think they make anymore (sausage dial now). It was the most fun with the strap changes, and it was really the most unique in my collection. It’s funny, I got more random questions and comments on that watch than anything else. My least favorite was the Navitimer (sorry Navitimer fans); way too busy for me. The Datejust was effectively replaced by its big brother. And the Sub was great, but I usually wear the Bluesy more. All in all, I’m very happy with the current SOTC. For now........ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Beautiful watch. I love the motif dial. I think you made a great decision. I'd take the DD over the other watches in a heart beat.
