Flip Lock Repair/Replacement
I originally posted this in the WatchTech section, but I think my question may get more exposure here in the General Discussion section of the forum.
__________________________________________________ ________ I just ended up buying a really nice 16800..... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=350274371423 One thing that will have to be taken care of is the flip lock on the bracelet. If you look at picture #15 you will see what I mean. Unlike the bracelet links, which are easily added or removed just by removing a screw, the flip lock is held in by a rivited pin. A few questions..... where can I source a proper Rolex flip lock, and can I remove and replace the old one without any specialized tools? Is this a do it yourself project or something that has to go to someone with the proper tools? Thanks..... |

Think you are going to need a whole new clasp, least that is what rolex is likely to say if you send it in. Otherwise you do need specialized tools to rivet it.

Yes you can buy a FlipLock clasp and change it. Here is how it look when I do it.

Here is an update to the eBay link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=350274371423 Let me clarify..... the clasp looks fine, it is the flip lock on the clasp that is the issue. The flip lock was replaced with a pretty poor looking non-Rolex part. I just want to pull that replacement flip lock off and put a Rolex flip lock on. It's that rivet that has me wondering how I can do it....... |

The problem isn't so much changing stuff.. It's actually getting the proper part for replacement.. Generally, if you are trying to just find the flip, you find it attached to the entire clasp. I suppose you might find a damaged clasp with a serviceable flip..
The end of the rivet is simply ground off and the rivet pushed out. Then another rod of the proper diameter is inserted and "hammered" flat at each end. There are some tools that do make riveting easier, but a hammer and small punch that you have put a small divot in the end of will work just fine..

Thanks Larry..... interesting how everything else on the bracelet is easy to remove, screws in the links, spring bars to attach to the case, but this piece is riveted in.....
Now the search begins for a flip lock...... |

I lost the fliplock clasp to my rolex submariner bracelet. Does anyone know where I can purchase another one? Every place I look at sells the entire bracelet or clasp but all I need is the small peice of stainless that keeps the clasp closed.
