PAM 88 or 279

Hi Guys,

I'm deciding to get either PAM 88 or PAM 279. If price isn't a big factor, which one should I get? It is going to be my very first Panerai.

Thanks.

I have to pick only one. It is a hard decision. I do really like the 88. But the 279 is also very stunning.

I love my 279... it was my very first panerai and even if i had to do it all over again i would still pick the 279.. love being able to have the choice of a bracelet or strap.. Also the brown dial is so dark almost looks like a washed out black in different light.. it's a lot cleaner looking than the 88.. also the 88 will always be around, the 279 is more of a rare bird of only 500 made. it has not left my wrist since i got it :)

also here is a great pic of the watch in different light, the brown almost makes the markers look like a brite green more so than the black brings out..

Also to add, I was torn between the 161 and the 279 which is the 88 gmt on a steel bracelet.. In the end I chose the 279 because it was in fact a cleaner looking watch, very stealthy and light as could be on the wrist.. Once day I will buy an 88 just to say I have one. thats after I buy an 8 day of course! but the hands on the 88 gmt models I just do not like. They are not the traditional panerai hands.. too updated, none classic looking.. i wish they made the 88 with the standard hands and not those big fat ones.. then that would be perfect for my taste.

in the end, a panerai is a panerai, which ever model you go with, just consider yourself lucky that you have one period.

I got the same problem

Ive been wanting a Panerai for years. My favorite has been the 161. Found a place in Florida that has a brand new 161 and 279. I was going back and forth which one to get because I started liking the 279. I went with the 161. I wont get to see it until I get home from Iraq next week. Ive been staring at that 279 all week and I think Im gonna call him and get that too. I love em both. The 279 is sweet for the plain subdued look. And the 161 GMT face and two tone is awesome. The 161 is basically an 88 with the bracelet. What Im getting at I guess is that both are awesome. Personally think they are the two best Panerais out there. And no Im far from some rich guy flaunting getting two of them. Been working in Iraq for a few years now and saving my butt off. Time to put that money to good use. So I guess in a week or so I wil be an official Paneristi.

Welcome MikeyDe I hope you get the watch of your dreams. I can not even begin to imagine how you have been living in Iraq.
Anyway I look forward with great enthusiasm to see & hear what Panerai you ultimately choose
Cool man

I have the 279 on wrist for couple of days now. I do love the brown dial. It is very classy with bright light. Currently, my lovely camera is taking a rest. The auto focus is not working. As soon as I get it back, I will post some of my 279 pics soon.

However, I do have the BNIB 88. If you are interested, we could work this out.

Good choice ... the PAM 88 is my 1st PAM and fell in love with it when I 1st laid eyes on it that I immediately rang my contact for 1 to be delivered to me. It's my fav watch of all time till I laid my eyes and got the PAM190 Rad few days later ... so clean & classy looking that it's now my meet the client watch.
