390, 590 or 111

Right narrowed it down to the 3 above as my first Pam. Tried the 590 and loved it. Like the idea of the 390 as a mini 372 and the 111 is local. All approximately the same price. Which one and why? Thanks guys

390, 590 or 111

I have to have a seconds hand. 590 hands down.

Perfectly good arguments for all 3.

For me, though, easily the 111 - a classic + greater variety of straps combos, and the power reserve of the 590 isn't enough to sway me, since the 111's modified ETA is plenty good.

If you like a clean dial go 390, otherwise for me I would go 111 eta movement, easy fix by any watch guy and it's a super cool piece very sexy with a clear case, good luck with your choice.

For me, it would be the 390 because it looks like a 372 lite but that's based purely on looks alone

Thanks fellas. Ruud, I'm thinking 390 as well for that reason. Also very limited and won't get rinsed if it's not a keeper.

390 for sure. I don't think it looks like a 372, but it is a classic in its own way. Among your 3, that's the easy choice

They're close enough that 99% of the world wouldn't be able to tell the difference at ten yards away

99% of the world thinks ALL Panerai look the same...that's what makes the brand unique.

As collectors we know better...

-390 44mm bettarini case, sausage dial, sapphire crystal
-372 47mm 1950 case 47mm, sandwich dial, domed plexi crystal

Other than both being "base" models, they couldn't be more different. I own a 372 and have worn a 390....not even close. My 000 is closer to the 390 than the 372.
With current used prices where they are, you can find a used 372 for about $500 more than a used 390. Money well spent!

Unfortunately my puny wrists can't take 47mm. I'm getting close to a 390!

390 isn't just brown, it is peachy in color. I bought and sold it. He's to match with straps. 111

Just tried a 111 locally at a good price. Very tempted!! Seems complete except for bezel protector. Anything to be wary of?

Spot on except that the 372 now has a sapphire crystal.

Obviously, to us the two pieces are very different but if you want a 372 but don't have the wrists or are not comfortable with the size then there are worse alternatives than the 390.

I personally would go 372 all day every day and would buy one in a heartbeat if my collection wasn't already complete.

Personally, I would go with the 590. I actually love the way it looks, and 8 day reserve is a very nice to have. For me, that means once it gets strapped on, its staying on for a week. Either way, congrats on the pickup and please share some pics!
