Icon7 Talk me out of (or into) the new Black Bay S&G

I've always been fond of the Black Bays, especially the red and the black for their classic old school style. That brought me close to pulling the trigger on several occasions in the past but something just stopped me every time.
Perhaps the lack of date on the eta models. Then the shield logo on the newer ones; loved the rose logo on the dial and could probably live without the date after all. Maybe I could even come to terms with the shield, got no problems with it, just liked the rose a bit more.
All this until Baselworld. I'd never thought I'd like TT other than a Rolex but that S&G Black Bay not only looks gorgeous but appears to tick all the right boxes for my next piece as well:

- The lassic look I've been after
- Date function
- NO crown guards and a large crown
- Non-ceramic bezel (to go with the 1st point)
- Two Tone which is bonus for a dressier look

Now remains to see one in the metal and how it wears on the wrist, especially under a shirt cuff (which I'm afraid will be on the thick side or maybe not?). So what do you guys think, especially those of you who own or have tried one on?

I tried one recently and the watch is very impressive, and at a great price. It also has gold text on the dial rather than white so matches up nicely. Only thing for me is the thickness compared to the sleeker Subc, but if that's no issue for you then go for it.

Talk you out of? No can do. I think it's the most elegant watch in any of their lines.

Thanks, that's what I've been thinking an is definitely something I'll have to physically check.

To one of your points, this is a thick watch, may be tight under your sleeve cuff. Otherwise I agree it is gorgeous

On the bright side this could serve as a brilliant excuse for some new tailored shirts and cufflinks

In all seriousness though, thickness appears to be the one point for serious consideration.

It's a lovely watch. I agree with Neil though. It certainly sits quite tall on the wrist like most of the house movement tudors so definitely worth a try, esp if you wear shirts etc.

Is the gold a gold plated? I don't know the correct term, but I don't think it's solid. That kinda messed it up for me.

This is how David Beckham responds to his critics / haters on the TRF !
David sends his Best Wishes to Everyone and to the OP he says

The bracelet looks too wide and disproportionate relative to the case. Same thing with the crown.

You're right, it's "capped" and "wrapped" but that doesn't bother me one bit. In fact I rather like it the way it's done

I was seriously thinking about buying one, but when I saw it I was underwhelmed. I'll say that I do very like the less yellow-y gold and brushed finish, which makes the bracelet almost understated -- rare for a two-tone. However, the strip of gold on the bracelet combines with the rivets to look too busy, to my eye. And as everyone else has noted, the watch head itself is definitely quite thick. I think Tudor dropped the ball a bit in this regard -- in my view, it goes beyond chunky to just plain sitting too high. However, what mostly put me off is the dial. In pics, I really liked how the gold printing matched the hands, but in person I just found it blah and brownish, not "popping" enough.

So, there, that was my effort to talk you out of it. I do think it's a nice watch, but I admit I was disappointed when I actually saw it.

I actually prefer the gold capped. What I find fascinating about this watch is the brushed gold look. Keeps the refinement of gold but does away with the bling. If more gold was done like this, I wouldn't be so against gold pieces for myself.

i know they made a big deal about differentiating it from "plated", by pointing out its capped which is a much thicker layer of gold than plating. Small distinction, but none the less it is a distinction. The end links are solid gold.

well "only" 2. One of which is on order, but thats a lot for me in 3 months. One more this year and I'm sure my wife will have me sleeping on the couch. So the S&G will have to wait a bit.

Can't talk you out of it. Other than the thickness and the clasp having no gold.

The plated links make it a non-starter for me. I understand why it's not an issue for some, but I'm not paying $5k for a watch with gold plating.

Can anyone point me to some technical information about the gold on this model? How thick is it? What's the process?

basically end links and bezel are solid gold, the crown is .6mm gold capped and the links are gold capped .25mm thick. Again, this is apparently "thicker" than standard gold plating.
