Sub 16610 or 116610
I am in the market for a submariner. This is my grail watch. The Submariner has always been my ultimate men's watch. Looks great with surf trunks or a suit. Only issue I'm having is ceramic or classic sub. I love both. I feel if I go with the 16610 I will always regret not getting the most recent release. There's a $1,000 difference between the two. I would get pre-owned due to the price. I'm leaning toward the classic due to the durability of the bezel insert. Scared I may crack the ceramic bezel knocking it into something. Help me decide.

Would you prefer the maxi case or the older case?
Do you want slightly improved lume? There may be a slightly different/upgraded movement in the newer version which would mean longer service intervals potentially, is that important? Is the updated bracelet something you're interested in? How often do you make a purchase and then immediately think "I wish I'd gone with the other one"? Have fun! Cheers, Ben |

Submariner Ceramic gets my vote. Bigger insert, glossy. No problems so far with mine. Bigger case looks much better too imo, bracelet is nicer too. Had both.

Lot's of threads on this. You will hear positives and negatives for both models. If you really like the Ceramic, go for it. There are not very many reports of broken inserts on TRF. I got my 116610 two years ago, and it looks amazing. Good luck on your choice

I don't think you have much to worry about ceramic inserts - ultra rare they break in my opinion!!!! Ive hit mine accidentally hard quite a few times - looks brand new!!

I have had both and can say that I enjoy the ceramic model more than I did the previous version. I have had my sub for 2 and a half years or so and the bezel/insert still look just as good as the day that I bought it and I have dinged it on many things and have had it pretty hard in the process.
Bad thing is the replacement cost of the bezel if it is ever needed compared to the few dollars it is to replace an aluminum insert. Regular wear you shouldn't have to worry about it. plus the glidelock clasp that comes on the current version is possible the best part of the entire package. Makes micro/large adjustments a breeze and truly makes it one of the most comfortable watches around. |

I'd get the 116610. The bracelet, the lume, and the ceramic bezel makes all the difference.

New sub gets my note.
I think the ceramic bezel looks more luxurious. The super cases looks more robust and I like that in a sports watch. |

Ahh, the 16610. Perhaps the penultimate of the sculpted case, aluminum bezel watches.

Ceramic it is. Love the lume, maxi dial, and new robust case design. Definitely worth the few extra months to put more money aside for. Thanks guys.

116610 here from DavidSW. I suffered from same dilemma until I tried on a ceramic. Mine arrived yesterday so I'm only 24 hrs in but so far I haven't said "boy I wish I had bought the 16610"

Currently have both, hard to say anything bad about either. Really just depends on your preference!

I've had both. Both are great. If I hadn't done a couple foolish trades which cost me money I would go with the ceramic again. The bracelet alone is worth the extra money. Unfortunately I traded mine to two new watches - big mistake and In a series of trades ended up with a V serial 16610 which I love but if I hadn't squandered my cash I'd go back to ceramic..

Both great IMO. If I could adjust the bracelet with 4 links at 6 o'clock I'd have a 5 digit.

Do you prefer blondes or brunettes? Personal preference. It will come to you. No wrong choice.

One has classic lines. The other just another Rolex. Guest which one gets my vote.
In other words the older the better. |

Go for the ceramic. It's very hard to damage. I abuse mine and it looks brand new. I slammed my DSSD on a shark cage a couple of times and thought I damaged the watch. Turns out it was just paint transfer from the cage.

16600. Classics all the way for me.
Had a 116610, didnt last long. The ceramic is too shiny for my tastes. |

The new subs are quite improved. Go hold both in your hand and you'll likely go ceramic. |
