Icon5 Day Date: 36mm vs 41mm

Sometime in the future, I'm looking to buy a Day Date, but I am already torn between the new style Day Date II with the 41mm case and the original Day Date 36mm.

I have a relatively slender wrist of 7 inches, but the new 41mm models fit me surprisingly well. I tried some on today at my AD.

I thought that the 41mm DJ and DD would be too big for me, so I thought I would just automatically go with the classic 36mm models... but this was not the case.

1. So now I ask, which of the two do YOU prefer?

2. Also, please post pics of your Day Dates, as I am also trying to decide between Yellow and White gold and a bright or dark face combination

To be honest, even though I think 36mm is just a tad too small, I believe it looks better than 41mm purely because the new version's bezel is too thick, IMHO.

And to me, looks are everything in a watch.

The 36mm version is the winner hands down here IMHO.

The newer ones are a bit out of proportion I think (IMHO of course)

36mm is the one to go... classic look, everlasting..... for example, i like DJ II though... modern look, big and i think it's better for younger generation to choose. I tried one once myself.
But looking at my dad's DJ, 36mm is the way to go.

I like them both, but I think I prefer the 36mm. I just wish it was 39mm, with the exact same proportions and look :)

I like the dials and bezel of the 36mm more--and even though it is only 36mm --which is smaller than I prefer--it gets away with it and pulls it off and wears bigger!

The GMT Kid - that vintage DD of yours is aweeesome

I'm leaning towards the 36mm too, after so much support... perhaps the 41mm is saved for a slightly more casual DateJust?

Now I'm trying to decide what kind of face I like best. What do you think? Light, Dark, Golden? And also the hour markers? I'm between just the roman numerals and the straight lines?

I have a 36mm DD and its one of my favorites. It spends a lot of time
on my wrist, comfortable and quite the perfect size for a dressier watch.

I suggest you try both on again, and really see what feels and looks best
for you.

My 1803 from 1962.

If you have the wrist....go for it....for me, the 36mm wears/looks better. Remember Rolexes wear bigger than their specs!

36mm is the perfect size. Yet to have a DD, but my DJ is 36, and I love it

36 YG/DD White Roman is something you should consider. Good luck

36MM is timeless....

I am fine with a 41MM watch, but the Day-Date in this size looks out of proportion, the dial is too small and the bezel is too large.

Although, DDII's have some awesome looking dials, proportions are not right. Of course, that's only my opinion and no offense to any DDII and/or DJII owners.

I'd go with the classic 36mm, unless you absolutely fell in love with the new one.

36mm is the classic DJ. The perfect size for a dress watch IMO.

36 and 41

I have both sizes, 36 in YG and WG and 41 in Platinum.
Like all of them but am partial to Platinum as when my mother passed away used part of inheritance to purchase.
The platinum is the heaviest watch I own it weighs more than my YG GMTc.

Now that I look at it, the 36mm does look kind of more proportionate than the 41mm... seems more like a timeless watch...

Although every time I see the pics Moe99 took of his YG/DDII I don't know what to think: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=87249

How long do you guys think the large watch trend will last? Do you think its just the new direction that watchmakers will maintain from now on?
