sd43 mk1 vs mk2
Hi guys
I'm actually on the list for a sd43 and wonder how you feel about the old versus the new dial ? What do you think of it ? Thanks... |

If you have the option of paying a small premium, I would definitely grab a MK1. They are slowly being recognized as more collectible, and are slowly rising in value. It’s no big secret that people are already recognizing that this will be the next flat 4 in terms of collectibility.

Some say MK1 over MK2. I dont care, i went to an AD and got an MK2. Who knows, only time will tell which is better, but this is one I will never sell.

You won’t have a choice. And even if you did it doesn’t matter.

I see there are still a few mk1's coming out. Luck of the draw. I have a funny feeling that the red lettering will not be around for many years.

It's probably a moot point but, if I had the chance to choose, I'd go with MK1.

MKI for sure if you can get your hands on one!
It had a shorter production run than the flat 4 so in a few years I expect (my own speculations) will be one of the most collectible Rolexes!

At this point it’s highly unlikely that you’ll find a mk1 version. Also the whole mk1 mk2 dial difference is so small i feel most of the people hyping it are the ones with a mk1 dial just trying to make themselves feel better. Anyway, the crown looks so much better in between Swiss Made on the mk2

If I were offered both versions at the same price I'd go with MK1 - it may at some point be thought of as the only "true anniversary model" at some point in the future. However, I would not turn down a MK2 if that was what they had, nor would I pay any substantial premium to get a MK1 over a MK2

I had the mk2 and spent £600 to upgrade to mk1. My feeling was anything up to £1,000 was worth it. I don't really notice the crown not being there at 6 but the difference is intrinsic. I know and it's like my little secret. It's also very cool to have the "true" anniversary edition. As others have said it may also be a better "investment" but to be honest I don't think you will part with it as it's size and red writing make up for the cyclop :)

Is there a cross over between MK1 and MKII dial? I have seen a May 2019 for sale at a grey without the crown on the dial, it seems quite late to me.

Mk1: 50th anniversary
Mk2: 51st anniversary Mk2's coronet at 6 might come across as a bit cheesy. Overall both are cool, it's just that one is cooler. If you can chose, go mk1 now or regret it for the rest of your life. Mark my words. |

Got a mk2 for a few hundred less than mk1 and 2 years newer. Still happy since it’s my daily and I don’t plan on selling this watch. If I was putting it in a vault then mk1.

I have a Mk I. I don’t care about that aspect so much as I love wearing the watch.
If you can buy and enjoy a new one, regardless of the dial, that’s a win. It’s such a fantastic watch. |

No kidding, considering I don't even have plans to buy the watch, then it matters less.
This seems like the point is to invest so in 50-60 years when you're 80-90 years old you'll be on TRF with the other old geriatric collectors waving around your watches that are alllll soooooooo valuable. That is those that are alive then... I mean if you're that serious about this then why get an artificial fabricated red sea-dweller, go all in and get the original "real" thing and then you can even show off the next level coolness to those with their "Mk1s". |

Doesn’t matter to me. I wouldn’t pay more for the MK1 ever.

sd43 mk1 vs mk2
Today it doesn’t really make much of a difference. Tomorrow it could be the ‘Flat 4’ / ‘Pointy 4’ scenario.
Rightly or wrongly, collectors look for the minuscule to make their reference different. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Both are the same wonderful watch, the MK1 is the first dial version (crown and bold white text), and will be more collectable IMO.

its already making a difference with MKI selling faster and for more. The big collectable model will be both when Rolex cut the red lettering (that's my call).

lol guess I just got punked into buying a fake SD43 from my AD. Better throw away the shameful Mk 2 and try and do better next time.

The mk1 only gained 30% in 2 years, hardly investment material. Hang on a minute...! Muhahahaha!
But seriously I bought mine because I love everything about it. Its appreciation in the grey market is nothing compared to the hot steel pieces. The Sea-Dweller has always been a niche product unlike the Daytona/Sub/GMT. In fact it's only gained value since the shortage, it was just retaining its retail price before that. However, since they stopped producing the mk1 (or started producing the mk2 in 2018), it's become a bit if a darling and enthusiasts drew parallels with the Sub flat 4. The SD43 mk1 had one year's production only and is immediately distinguishable from the mk2 in the absence of the coronet at 6. I don't know what will happen but I've got a good feeling. |
