The DJ was THE watch that got me interested in Rolex. It wasn't my first Rolex, but my first new purchase, and I got it as classic it it comes: 116234, 36mm, silver face, stick markers on a Jubilee.

DJs are good looking watches and IS the bread and butter of Rolex just like the F150 truck of Ford. They come in many different variants and are overproduced to meet the demand (unlike that of the lower-priority low-profit margin SS sport) to bring as much profit as possible to Rolex. If you ever throw a rock into a Rolex AD, good chance it will hit a DJ. Still a good watch regardless. I bought a few for my lady and friends.

I would've thought that the OP was the more "looked" down watch due to its "entry level" stigma.

I don't think all are entry level, most versions of DJ costs pretty penny. The DayDate which basically a hop-up version of DJ will cost an arm and a leg

Personally, I love the DJ so long as it doesn't have any diamonds (just not my thing). I am actually super close to buying either the 41 or new 36 in the blue or rhodium dial with the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. I am leaning blue...

Yes they are looked down upon in that you have to look down to see the time on your wrist!

Joking aside, Datejust is a beautiful watch in most cases (some ugly combinations out there though), it has the weight and fit to be a very comfortable all day watch.

But you are right, from what I have seen on this forum most discussions tend to be around sport models.

I think the Datejust is a great model. There are so many variations, that there's almost something for everyone and it runs the gamut, from casual to dressy. Lots of the respect for the Datejust from me!

Perhaps but only by those new to the brand and are chasing the hot SS sports models. We read posts here which say something to the effect all they had in the case was DJs and other junk. Sad how misguided some people are. Same movements and build quality across the line.

Yeah a 41, just a 7” wrist, it’s probably the angle.

I could totally wear a DJ. I used to like utilitarian sports watches only but my taste has evolved towards dressier sports pieces.

I like the dressier watches, always loved the TT DJ. I always loved how the light bounces off the fluted bezel.

Wife wears a customized DJ 36 and it's awesome! I don't believe I've ever seen a post of somebody looking down on DJs.

Nothing, but perhaps ask your question to every member who came back from the AD to indignantly start a thread, "Just back from _____. No sport models, just *&^@#! DJs!!" Or, to the members who have so helpfully suggested to Rolex to reassign resources from making the world's most popular sport watch (the DJ) to their precious professional FOMO piece du jour.

Nothing but respect for the DJ. Regardless of size or metal type. It's a proven staple for Rolex and the watch world. An all-time classic.

Definitely some newer members especially that seem to overly focus on the difficult to find watches Rolex makes, but at least IMO the DJ41 is an amazing watch. In fact, it would be my go to today to avoid dealing with the "hassle" of convincing someone at an AD to take my $10k lol

I just don't really like them. Can't speak for the rest of the forum, though. To me they're small, entry-level watches that are a little too dressy for my taste when compared to the pro lineup.

Some of them look classically cool (jubilee + fluted), but they don't do anything for me personally and after trying one on, wouldn't likely own one either.

The simple answer is no. No one should be looked down upon for wearing any type of Rolex. I have the Day-Date and a Tudor Date-Just. I didn't feel the need to add a Rolex Date just to have it. I feel like I'm covered with what I have. That being said. I don't wear those two watches on a regular basis. I wear my Submariner and Explorer on a near regular basis.

I am a huge DJ fan and especially the new 41. I have bought 3 Rolex watches this year and all have been DJ's. I prefer them over the DD, the GMT's and the Daytona's.

For some reason I feel as if the DJ just isn't a respected Rolex. Am I wrong here?
The answer to your question is no, but totally understandable why you'd think otherwise; every second thread here these days is piffle like "Look at my Hulk", "Should I swap my Bluesy for a Kermit", "Batman vs Sub" etc etc. It's all very tedious.

My first Rolex was a DJ. Since then I've had many different Rolex watches cycle through my collection, but I always have one DJ. It just fills a gap that no sport model could fill. While the sport models get most of the discussion by WIS-types, the general public seems to buy a lot of DJs.

fluted DJ is on the dressier side, but i think can be dressed down via strap combos.

Personally I love the DateJust, just not enough to own one. I just prefer rolex sport models. But Man, so many great DJ options and a great value. I do however own a Sky Dweller which I feel is a strong alternative to the DJ as they resemble each other a lot.
