5740/1g

I have access to a 5740/1G at msrp. There are 25 on Chrono24 at ~$250K. Is Chrono24 really turning over this reference at this price point, or close to it? Crazy.

Don’t really understand your question tbh?
The 5740 is a fantastic Nautilus and if you can acquire it at MSRP, what’s your hesitation?
Your initial post seems to reference its resale value as a criteria before you decide to pull the trigger. That is rather unfortunate considering that you are probably not really interested in the watch except for its potential for resale profit?

To answer your question, yes the market price is exactly what is advertised. Most ADs get 1 5740 per year. That’s it. But it’s not really going at those Chrono24 prices. It’s about Chrono24 prices - 10-15%

Could you please get it for me at MSRP? I will have my friend come to collect it and pay you.
I am not a VIP and the ADs can't be bothered to entertain me .
Haha

sorry for confusion. no intention to resell. if i bought it i would keep it like all my watches. if i do this, it will be the most expensive watch i have ever purchased, so i think it would be naive not to look at what its market value is. that's all.

Yes, get it if you can. It is stunning. Sadly no ADs offer me and I also can't afford to buy loads in order to get onto the list

I’m happy for you! Congratulation!
I think everybody is a little uptight about flippers in general due to the sheer difficulty in obtaining certain pieces. The 5740 is one of them. Wear it in good health should you decide to get it.

I've been following the 5740 market very closely, EWC sold one about 4 weeks ago for 220k. Recent sales have been in the low 230s. One of my greys sold one with NO box or papers for $215k about 2 months back.

Congrats! Without question, it is my favorite nautilus.

Buy it without hesitation, it’s epic. My grail. Sadly I’ve been told by my AD that i have no chance.

thanks. unlike the first two knuckleheads that responded, this is very helpful. my motivation is not about flipping, i was just interested in some credible evidence at to the 5740's market value. again, much appreciated.

LOL OP just called you a knucklehead.

I have said this a few times before. Even ''flippers'' pay a premium for the hot watches they get from their ADs. More often than not, they get it via a bundle.

It’s the internet! Haha! There’s no reason to be offended by someone who I’ve never met in real life right? Better spend my time thinking how to make more money and buy more watches right? No?

Honestly, my interest lately has switched towards Richard Mille and the RM67-02 after being influenced by CL16. So the singular focus is to get a watch to have fun with, rather than being petty about a comment on the internet.

I can't make up my mind on 5740/1G - sometimes I like it quite a bit, sometimes I find it just ok. Got myself on the wait list late only after having seen it IRL in Geneva, and as a result it is 5+ years away. By the time I get the call I may have trouble reading the subdials w/o glasses, LOL.

I certainly don't think 5740/1G is the best Nautilus, let alone the greatest thing on earth. Just a feat of case engineering in order to marry the good old 240 PC movement to the Nautilus.

IMO the 3-subdial layout looks a lot better in a round case and the Nautilus looks better w/o them subdials, so 5711 blue + 3940P >> 5740/1G ?! Maybe just add 3940P? Then again I have a little 3998P that is dear to my heart which the 3940P would make superfluous...

I was third on the list for one the year it came out, but I was not sure about the cramped dial, think 41mm may have been better, so I didn't follow up on it as was too much of an outlay for a watch I wasn't 100% on, not a problem now though.

thanks for the response. i share many of your observations. i think the core attraction with steel nautilus is in its simplicity epitomized by the 5711 but it is virtually impossible to get and unfortunately it is so hyped out its vibe is a bit tarnished IMHO. i completely agree the PC complication seems more at home in round case PM variant like the 5327. like you i seem to go back and forth on this variant which at this price point is probably a red flag haha. thx for input

I think 200-225 is the fair market in the greys. I tried trading a few of my pieces for one. I think it’s a great watch bec it’s thin like the original 3700 or the 5711 and 5712 which is part of the beauty of the Nautilus. I love my 5726 bec of t’s legibility where the dial set up is tough for me to read. I had a AP RO PC that was hard to read and it’s set up is similar to the 5740. Regardless the 5740 is a great watch and if you can swing it by all means buy it and know your investment is fairly safe.
