Rolex robbery downtown Athens

One of the two Rolex Hellas stores was robbed this morning.

Three armed robbers equipped with hammers attacked the security guard and gained access into the store.

More than 10 (up to 15) Rolex watches were stolen during the smash and grab. Judging from the displays broken, some heavy hitters must have been scooped up...

Thankfully nobody was seriously injured.

This place is mere meters from Syntagma Square and heavily policed 24/7...

This is one of the most heavily policed areas of Athens (close to the parliament). Still they did not hesitate to break into

Having a hard time seeing how the security guard didn’t sustain some pretty bad injuries. Hopeful he/she didn’t.

Will there be an end to such news? I've never visited the place in question but how can they attack an area guarded by the local police?
Some things don't just add up.

Unfortunayely there is no such state that I know of, even among the most advanced, where crime has been eradicated...

No conspiracy here, plain old school robbery...

Besides, the police are not standing guard outside every store.

But I will agree it takes some audacity (or stupidity) pulling off such stunt in that particular area.

Wow, tis the season...
Doesn't seem to make a difference if there's hired Security or Police standing guard. Thieves will be Thieves...
The watches will eventually make it into the CPO program.

On the news here just minutes ago:

The police have arrested two Greek nationals involved in the robbery. Another three individuals of foreign nationality have also been identified and are wanted.

The latter had entered the country with the sole purpose of perpetrating the robbery and fled shortly after.

No watches were recovered AFAIK.

Will post more details if they become available.

Any update on the condition of the security who sustained the head injuries?

I know that area pretty well, I lived there in the 1990's and visited just recently in 2019.

My nephew still lives right around the corner and is a watch guy.

He said everything on display recently in that store were non-work exhibition models.

So the the thieves stole nothing of any real value.

Negative, Brian. But I think we would have known if they were serious. So I guess he's alright.
Latest information on the perps, turns out it's 1 Greek national (the one who attacked the guard) and spoke in Greek so as to confuse the witnesses about the nationalities involved, one from the neighboring country to our NE and three from the central Balkans. One of the latter, in his mid 60s presented himself with mobility issues thus tricking the guard into keeping the door open just long enough for the others to rush in.
All involved have a rap sheet for similar...activities in the past, one of them in Switzerland, too. Another is an ex convict.
Would be interesting to know more about their distribution network.

When I read that they grabbed 10-15 watches, it didn't sound right as no one has that kind of inventory, if any, in their display windows. Apparently these guys weren't the smarted bunch....

I was in Greece when that happened. Actually 2 days before the robbery, we drove by with a couple of buddies, and I took a wrist shot wearing my Sub, with that exact shop in the background.
I remember thinking "I hope the security camera didn't catch a glimpse of my car"!!

It's nice to hear progress is being made in the case!!!

The "gang" was nicknamed the "pink panthers".

If you have been to Greek ADs and especially Rolex Hellas you know that the stolen watches would return to them ;)

Are you saying all the stolen watches were recovered and returned to the store?

Apologies for the late reply. Indeed, this is not what I was implying. Greek ADs, Rolex Hellas included have very greedy business tactics.
According to the greek news, the watches (except one which was sold in the black market) where recovered and returned.

I am greek and I had awful experiences from greek ADs. On the contrary, I had great experiences from UK and Netherland ADs.
