My AD told me thats sure we can expect a price increase from Omega end of this year. Dont know if they will discontinue or just add the new movt in and keep same layout. I also think that if they do all the changes mentioned here (new movt, ceramic bezel, new bracelet) the price will be in the 6k range Lets see :) |

An enormous mistake it would be to remove or change the Speedmaster Professional Hesalite. It's never stopped them bringing out variations of tge Speedmaster and it's not like they are loosing money on it or people aren't buying it.

The very most that might happen eventually, is putting in the 3861 movement. But they will not change the appearance of the watch. Even the movement change I don't think will happen any time soon. The Speedy Pro Hesalite is the only Omega watch that is stable, set in stone, frozen in time. That's what makes it special. Certified by NASA for manned space flight. A ceramic / sapphire / 3861 speedmaster is simply no longer a moonwatch, period. |

I’d think what is more likely is we will see a new sapphire model introduced with ceramic bezel and the 3861 to run as a premium option to the hesalite. If I’m right I think they’ll price it around the $8k mark to sit firmly inbetween the 321 and the 1861 hesalite. All big ifs and total guesswork but I’m 100% confident the 3861 will be in a main line model in the very near future as otherwise it’s wasted R&D costs for omega. |

Does anyone know what happened when they switched from the 861 to the 1861 movement? Does NASA have to requalify (or whatever the proper term is) the watch after any spec change?

From my understanding there was little to none changes on 1861 vs 861 (18 jewels vs 17 and rhodium plated for 1861) so dont know if they need to be certified again at the time Omega changed to 1861 - keeping the hesalite
Now with 3861 .....we need to see but I doubt NASA will spend the time to do it, there are rumors that Omega could try to replicate inside the tests and provide this to NASA just to keep Speedmaster under same certifications but probably they need to keep the hesalite on for this All rumors so we need to wait and see :) |

Still $5350 but unavailable for online order in USA. I assume ADs have stocked up.
I don't see any price increase on the references that I know the price in USA. |

Looks like the increase happened in the UK, just checked on the Omega site its now £4,260 & available - I placed an order for one end of July with watches of mayfair and still waiting on delivery was told 10-12 weeks.
I contacted several companies at the time and was told they were struggling to get stock, so decided to order and sit it out!. |

I was just offered 2 Speedy's with hesalite from AD? Has anyone else heard any confirmation that these will be discontinued? The SA told me they will be discontinued, and that I should purchase both.
Thoughts?

On Omega website Snoopy Speedmaster 3861 movement is described like this, which I think is a clear statement that 1861 is no longer made.
Powering the watch is the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 – the most recent update of the legendary Moonwatch movement. It took 4 years to produce a calibre that could achieve Master Chronometer certification, while also matching the dimensions of the previous Moonwatch movement – the 1861

Most likely will be discontinued at some point but no one really knows when until Omega makes an official announcement. As for buying 2 hesalites, I would only buy one if I liked the watch. I wouldn't buy it to try to speculate on watch values.

Why does he suggest buying two? These have been massively produced for years and are incredibly popular. Do people really think these will be that scarce and rare? Even despite upgrading the movement, there will still be so so many 1861 and 1863’s on the market. Seems a little silly to me........

Again... why would Omega stop making arguably their best selling watch for over 6 decades? I can understand upgrading the movement from the 1861 to the 3861. But discontinuing the Speedmaster Professional with the hesalite crystal? I'm sorry but this makes absolutely no sense to me.
It would be like Chevy discontinuing the Corvette. |

The SA is implying that once this current model is discontinued, the newer one will be more expensive due to the upgrades (movement, etc). The original moon watch will be upgraded, and you won't be able to purchase a new in box for $5,350 so buy it now.
I might buy one, but not two solely on future value. According to him the original moon watch will be discontinued around October 15. Make of it as you wish. Thanks all!

No need to buy 2 of them though. Just get 1 if you like the watch unless you have money to just throw around.

If you like the current moonwatch for what it is I say buy now. It’s a hell of a watch. |
