Scratched Lugs at Omega Boutique

I took my new Speedy Sapphire Sandwich to have the bracelet changed to the nylon with deployant clasp at the local Omega Boutique. The watch was purchased at an AD/Boutique elsewhere. I did buy the new strap and deployant from the local OB.

During the sizings, they managed to scratch my lugs which I didn’t really look for until I got home later. I have bought multiple straps from the local OB.

I brought back and they attempted to clean up but the watch tech said they were too deep. He offered to send the watch off for service to get refinished properly and give me a loaner watch OR a credit for $900 on the future service of an Omega watch in which the scratches would be fixed anyway and the whole watch would be serviced. The OB said because I didn’t purchase from them, they couldn’t exchange.

I think the $900 future service credit on any Omega service is decent. Still annoyed about the scratches. I want to push about getting an allocation for a Silver Snoopy.

Thoughts?

Are your scratches visible when wearing the watch, or only when looking at the back of it? IMO, these things happen, and I think they gave you fair compensation as long as it’s not a glaring issue when wearing the watch.

The staff at my OB (which doesn’t have technicians, only sales staff) are hit-and-miss about straps and link changes. I’ve had some do a great job, but others have done a number on my Omegas (all of which are screws, no pin and collar). They also never use loctite when resizing my links.

It is a perplexing shame that something so simple as a strap change or link resizing is not taught and drilled to perfection when these reps are handling brand-new, sentimental, multi-thousand dollar purchases. I finally taught myself how to do it after so many bad experiences and realizing I cared (and knew) more than these reps. At the end of the day, I wear my watches daily and expect them to have signs of use, so a few extra scratches don’t bother me. I may feel differently if it was a precious metal piece, though.

He’d probably issue a veiled threat or something like that.

Where are the scratches? On the inside of the lugs or outside?

Good idea on asking for a Snoopy allocation. That’s worth the scratch that you’ll get over in a week

Underside. I think the $900 seems fair on the future service. Just soliciting feedback especially if anyone had a similar situation.

The Snoopy is would be a keeper for my youngest daughter someday so it would be worth a shot. What do they say about the shots not taken.

Appreciate everyone’s input. The $900 credit with Omega on a future service for any Omega watch and a spot on the Snoopy wait list seem very good to me. This is what they have done.

I’d be angry, too. I’m not trying to say you shouldn’t be upset.

The $900 they’ve offered you is extremely generous for the damage done. Accept it, continue to enjoy a great timepiece, and time will assist in letting this frustration go.

It happens even to experienced techs with a lot of experience. It is on the underside and not a big deal to me. Ask for $900 in straps or accessories. The service is down the road and may not be needed for years.

Agree with this. Hell I've had worse done to my watches at ADs, but I knew I'd simply add to the scratches over the years anyway so I didn't worry about it. As long as it's not visible, I think $900 is a heck of a good deal on your end.

You should see how the AD butchered my bracelet screws while adjusting my Datejust 41. Ugghh.

I think this is a good call and worth a try IMHO.

The exact same thing happened to my snoopy at the OB. Ever since then I just change the straps myself.

Scratch is a part of it and I always tell the one changing that I am not too particular about scratches since I know how hard it is to do it and I often scratched up the lugs when I do it in my own.

The $900 service compensation is a great deal in my opinion.
