Variations on 5167 Tiffany stamp location
I recently noticed that the Tiffany-stamped 5167s I see online have their stamp in one of two places:
1. Vertically centered in the second cell above the 6. http://media.tiffany.com/is/image/Ti..._940185_ED.jpg 2. Top-aligned in the first cell above the 6. You can see both variations if you Google image search or search tiffanydial on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/tiffanydial/ Has anyone else noticed this? Any more info/insight? |

I clicked on both links but on each the stamp on the 5167 are placed similarly, on other models sure they have different emplacements but on the 5167 it's the same...
Ok sorry, looked again and yes it is placed either at the top or bottom level of the 4-7, interesting that they did differently |

Have to "load more" a few times to get to the wrist shot with it top-aligned in the cell above the 6.
Unfortunately I'm not much help in this...in fact, until this thread I have never seen a Tiffany dial 5167. |

Sorry for the confusion w/ just providing the search URL. Here are a few examples showing the top-aligned within cell variation:

I think vertically centered is nicer than top aligned, better dial harmony IMO

There is a 5167a on eBay right now that doesn't look like any of these variations. It looks like that it doesn't come with anything to document its provenance either.

They are not clearly presented in the posting. A complete set with boxes and paperwork doesn't necessarily mean that the watch is from Tiffany's. Otherwise anyone can stamp a dial, right?
Perhaps all is right, and it is just another variation in stamping. |

The seller on eBay has just responded that the papers confirm provenance, which introduces a third variation of the stamping.

And here is the 5167r that I recently had the pleasure of trying on at the Tiffany's in Beverly Hills, which offers an example of a more balanced dial:

Still trying to understand the hype of the Tiffany stamp. Personally I wouldn't want Wempe, Beyer or Watches if Switzerland on my dial and wonder why Tiffany has such allure!!! My AD sells significantly fewer PP than Tiffany and yet not regarded as being as prestigious!

There is no rational explanation of the "hype." Shall we say: horses for courses? |

Interesting as I would have though all modern stamps would be placed in the same place. You do see variation of placement in vintage Rolex so maybe it carries over and folks aren't strict about placement.

Good catch, being that my next Patek will be a 5168G tiffany (fingers crossed) I will make sure I get good placement of the tiffany! Everyday is a school day haha.

I was told by a Patek salesperson at Tiffany in Beverly Hills that the dials are sent to H. Stern in NYC for the Tiffany stamp and then sent back to Geneva and the watch is put together with the stamped dial installed. So any variation occurs at H. Stern and from what I've been told they try to find the best location and not every dial at Tiffany has the stamp because some dials just don't have room.

Pardon my ignorance; but what's so special about Tiffany dials? I find them ugly - no offense no owners.
