Worked nicely! Very happy with the result.

Ok the same thing happened on my GMT IIc LN - and believe it or not - I had some polywatch that I bought from ebay for a couple of quid that I used to polish my Moonie when I had it and I thought I try it on the scratch and lo and behold the scratch went away and the cyclops was perfect again!

Give it a go - you have nothing to lose.

not at all.

I just don't think I'm comfortable taking any sort of tool to my watch. I wish I was that handy! Lol

I have polywatch as well, but do you think it would work on this kind of scratch as well?

i would do what you can at home, if the scuff is still there, get it replaced. Crystals are a minor replacement.

One time, my friend broke his crystal completely and had tiny pieces all over the dial....that was a mess...

good thing yours didnt break

I would be quite comfortable trying to improve the cylopse with some sort of polishing paste, if it didn't improve the situation I'd then be happy to wait until service time. I'd feel worse if it was a ding to the case.

Thanks guys! I'll try polywatch then when I'm back home.

In the meantime though I've checked with my watchmaker, he said it's possible to swap only the lupe at a fairly cheap cost.

So sorry for reviving an old thread. But wanted to say, I noticed a weird metal-like speck on my cyclops crystal (GMT II Ceramic) and figured, if I mess it up, I'll just pay for a replacement crystal. Lo and behold, the polywatch trick worked!

I've had my Datejust II cyclops scratched as well, didn't know where it came from. It bothered me initially but then that watch was pretty beat up as it was my daily-wear for 8-9 years. I eventually had it serviced and replaced the whole crystal, now it looks brand spanking new. The crystal replacement cost was roughly $125.

Rolliworks removed a cyclops on another watch to replace it.

You might try the crystal polishing compound. I used it a lot on my acrylic crystal and it worked great but not sure how well it will work on a sapphire crystal.

Its wild what will scratch a crystal and what wont. I have thrust my wrist into many a server rack with my old Explorer II, with the watch crystal scaring on metal over and over... not a scratch showed up on the crystal! (now the bezel and band... that is a different story!)

Yup, I think what you're referring to is Polywatch. That's what I used to get the weird metallic shiny "scratch" to come off of mine. There was also a smaller scuff looking thing that came out as well. Polywatch also took care of most of a pretty deep scratch I got on my Montblanc Starwalker pen where the floating logo is at the top of the cap. That stuff is aces in my book.
