Why anyone is upset when 'no one notices my Rolex' beats me.

Sure they do, but they don't want to pander to your ego.

They would look like a real kiss ass if they started falling all over themselves to compliment you on your watch.

Same as the guy who pulls up at the traffic signals in a top range Mercedes doesn't get upset because the guy in the 10 year old beat up Toyota doesn't get out, shake his hand and start telling him what a great car he has and one day he will work hard to get one!

Whilst out at the shopping mall, my wife regularly sees other women wearing top end designer gear - but that's all she does, notice. Not once has she felt the urge to stop her in her tracks and start complimenting her Louis Vuitton coat or chanel hand bag.

Why should our watches be any different - its not a bragging tool, or if it is you may come across as very shallow.

I wear my rolex day in day out. To tell u truth, I prefer no one notice it as i enjoy wearing for my own satisfaction and not for others, unless if they are a WIS as well. Why do u want to be notice anyway?

It takes a certain situation for me to compliment somebody on their watch. I'm afraid of saying nice Rolex when it's actually something else. If I'm interacting closely enough with somebody to get a good enough look then I'll say something.

Happened this weekend with a gentleman wearing a YG white Romans DD. Once I saw the crown on the president band I struck up a conversation.

I usually don't comment on other people's watches because I'm not sure what their reaction will be, or if for them it is the wrong timing.

My only Rolex is a 216570 Polar Exp II. The one time it was commented on was by a gentleman in line next to me at a Chipotle. He was wearing a Royal Oak that he had just acquired, so I think that watches were on his mind

I've only had one person comment on my watch - in a higher end shoe store. He said "Hey is that a real Datejust?" I politely corrected him that it was a Day-Date and assured him it certainly was real, to which he replied "cool" and that was the end of the exchange.

I wouldn't bring it up, but if someone approached me in an amicable tone, I'd certainly engage them the way I did in the above scenario.

But approach people about their watch? I'm way too conservative to do that - and I've noticed hundreds of Rolexes in the wild. But knowing my luck, I would go out of my way to say "Hey, nice GMT!" and I would get a snarky reply like "Actually, it's a ROLEX (eyeroll)"

Fair enough.

I'm conservative and wear my watches under my sleeves if possible.

Same goes with exotic/nicer cars in the city, I think it's funny when people pose in front of Bentley's for a photo op.

Very true but when you state "My wife was being a little snobby, " she says "Invicta like Rolex?, try a few more $$$$"......"

you can understand why the question has been asked...

I couldn't believe it when I went to my local Starbucks recently and was really shocked and upset that no one noticed my new Sub date... the peasants!

Padi, where can we get these forehead stickers? Are the ADs hoarding them too? I saw some on ebay, but I think they were counterfeit.

Here is my story about why I don't talk to strangers about their watches any more.

I was in Barbados, going on a dive trip with my wife and some other people.

Now, I will admit I'm a bit rough looking. I have a few tattoos and shaved head.

I see he's wearing a Daytona, so I show him my Sub and we chat about cars and motorcycles a bit.

After the dives, we are back at the port, and he can't find his watch. He's obviously worried, and frantically searching the boat.

He gives me more than one dirty look, and I'm thinking, this guy thinks I stole his watch.

I'm half expecting him to call the police on me.

Finally he finds it tucked in a sunglass case in the bow.

I think I was as relieved as he was.

Ever since then, I don't draw attention to other people's expensive belongings.

I love Rolex more then any other brand. But my biggest gripe is that when wearing it people may notice and make judgements about me. It's the unavoidable truth about the brand. But I get over it and just enjoy wearing them and hope for the best.

That is a tricky situation... I can see Larry David writing an episode around that.

My post from another thread with a similar theme as this one:

The day I bought my DateJust, my wife and I went to a restaurant to eat right after leaving the AD. As we were being seated, the host (this was Baker's Square, so don't get the wrong idea) said "Nice watch!". My back was to him at the time, but I thought to myself "That didn't take long." He then follows up with "Is that an Apple watch?" while looking at my wife. She was wearing her FitBit Blaze on an eBay metal strap.

Everyone always notices my Rolex and I do mean everyone. And for those that don't recognize the Rolex there can only be one explanation...

Agree with this.

I would have genuinely been upset if my wife said something like that.

Then again, I would never be with someone who could even conceive of a thought like that.
