Tudor Black Rose! A watch to build a collection around!
This watch has been elusive for me. I've looked for at least 3-4 months. Called at least 20 dealers. Spoke to Tudor at Basel hoping they could locate one of the 3,000 of these for me. I was determined. Why? Well I think this is the perfect blend of the past and present. The Gilded dial and hands are perfect. It has a slimmer case than the in house versions. It has the Rose logo vs the shield. It has the finely calibrated and upgraded top level ETA 2824 which runs around +2 daily. The ETA isn't sophisticated but it's charming. Everything about this watch is charming. The smiley text is charming. The Red triangle is charming. The bubble crystal with distortion on the edges is charming. The Bezel notched each day for the date is charming. Will it be worth a fortune someday? Quite possibly. Right now $3,000 for this example was a bargain I believe. But that's not the point of this watch. This watch is a quiet little secret of cool and searching for a nice clean example was fun. The public at large won't even notice this watch. Even certain WIS associates will overlook it. But privately you will always "get it". I hope to never sell it. I want to see it age gracefully and look like a well aged 6538. It's the kind of watch that gives me enthusiasm to reboot my collection and to build around it as this one becomes the centerpiece!

Congratulations!! We'll see how collectible they actually are in the long haul. At any rate a very nice watch for certain.

While I don't think it'll ever be of real value, besides personal, you are totally making me want one.
Looks good. Enjoy.

@superdog Personal Value well exceeded already!
This watch is fun. The large crown with engraved rose. The shield buckle. The way the gold text is painted not printed and is raised. The way the dial isn't black but gritty chocolate. It's a lot of fun in a relatively inexpensive package. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Congratulations, I love the black with gold highlights and the ETA features you mention. I have the blue ETA and love it, but the black is the most attractive and difficult to get.

For all the reasons you stated, I bought one and enjoy wearing it from time to time. It is certainly a very limited production piece of less than a year.

It's a winner - I love mine and it gets plenty of wrist time in between my GMT and Sub LV

I'm with you on that OP. I have two of them. One bracelet set and one strap set. They have become my watch of choice over my rolexes lately. I love the look of the rose gold hands and markers on that satiny black dial. And that lume! My favourite.
Even though these are not even two years old they are already becoming a sought after classic.

Wearing mine now. A great watch, which continues to grow on my after owning for over a year.

Lots to love with Tudors. I think the engraved rose on the crown is a particularly classy touch. Lume is crazy good on modern Tudors too.

It's a great piece and probably a good long-term investment as watches go, but you can probably still find the Red Rose for about $2,000 on the steel bracelet, which makes more financial sense at least in the medium term.

Now that I think of it, I have had it two years. I remember I got the first shipped to Minneapolis. Time flies with this great reference.

Thanks everyone for the supportive thoughts :)
Few questions-It seems like the Dial is domed as well, no? I also have an in house version which feels much thicker. The crystal on the in house is also more distorted as well. Anyone notice? I guess my point, the in house version seems like an entirely different watch. Different bracelet, Different logo and text, Different case size, Different Crystals, Different Movement, ETA dial is domed slightly, in house not so much. |

I don't know about the newer in house movement versions....but the older Rose dial ETA BB's are indeed slightly domed on the dial.

I am with you here...wearing mine as I type...back in november 2015, I postponed my return flight in Paris for over 2 weeks just to wait for the Black Rose Beauty !!!
Already been a lot in the ocean with me...and I wish I 'll take it scuba diving one day...Definitely a very very special and enjoyable piece !!! Since Rolex & Tudor do not usually share/publish production figures, how did you get to 3,000 ? Enjoy the Beauty in good health...always !!!

Having the set was the only option for me. I know they are similar but I find myself wearing them all. But no doubt the black bezel ETA will be the most sought after piece in the long run. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have the in-house but am thinking about that picking up the ETA also. Curious how much more domed the ETA dial is compared to the in-house. I assumed they would have the same dials.
