Left-Skewed Serial Number Engraving

I know there is some variation in the engravings between the lugs of vintage watches, but this serial number looks far more left-skewed than any other I've seen before.

Strange. Very strange. All numbers seem out of line as well.

The watch was serviced by RSC and has the accompanying paperwork and service guarantee so I don’t really question the authenticity, but I did find the alignment unusual.

Interesting...apart from the alignment, which is really unusual, the weird 2 caught my attention as well...

It sure looks fishy for a couple of reasons.

Could you post a pic of the other side with the reference # engraved?

Did you mean the paperwork is from the RSC, or do you have the original warranty papers too?

I have RSC paperwork but no original guarantee papers.

Just something that went slightly wrong in production. Not like Rolex back in the day would throw away usable parts. Looks fine to me.

There were definitely some minor variations on these vintage Rolexes, with slightly crooked numbers, or engravings a little left or right. Perhaps this is just an extreme example.

Here is the same reference watch with a close serial number for comparison:

Ironically the ref. # is left-shifted as well.

Looks like an original, off-center engraving not unlike many other case engravings.

Below you'll find some serial number engravings from GMT 16750 cases.
