Congratulations! Would they have let you buy both the black and the white daytona? Or was it one or the other? I already have a white dial....but I would have bought both of those Daytonas and proceeded to flip them both like ozzie smith. I know that wont sit well with a lot of people. But hey. Its a cold world.

Wow!! I think most ADs have similar stock yet they release to “special” customers..... might be consioiracy theory but that story goes along with it!

Congratulations on an iconic watch!!

Great timing, lucky you... it would have been hard for me to resist getting both Daytona's.
Congrats & enjoy!

All in caskets. All Rolex retail prices, no taxes as this is an AD.

I had about 5 minutes to decide between the BLNR and the white Daytona. Here is what I picked :). Wrist shots to follow when my journey ends.

About the easiest and quickest luxury purchase I've had.
wow awsome story! i will buy the black ss daytona as well to match with the white :)

The thought did cross my mind :). My head was spinning a bit though. We had about 20 minutes to make a gate that was a brisk 10 minute walk away. I hadn't planned on buying anything. It was midnight and I was tired. My wife was asking me why I was buying the white Daytona as I hadn't mentioned it before.

I kind of wish I had bought both Daytonas. But I was so, so, so close to just walking away without buying anything. And I'm so glad today that I pulled the trigger... :)

ETA. In case my wife ever reads this board and to be fair to her. After a brief discussion at the AD, she said she wanted to buy the Daytona for me for our 20th wedding anniversary. So that makes the watch even more special to me.

What a lucky find! Airport duty frees seem to be the place to get lucky - a buddy just got a blue SS SkyD the other day from a airport duty free in Asia.

Makes me wonder if I should have just asked what stock there was the last time I was at BKK airport. I saw the cases full of DJs and DDs and walked out in disgust, who knows what they might have had in the back!

I still can't believe this happened. Wish I heard this before paying a premium for mine, could have spent that extra money traveling hunting for a deal like this!!

Congrats, I guess the salesperson might keep the popular models for foriegners. Every time I go to Suvanabhumi airport , I always ask them about sport models, they just simply say no available.

Looking good! Congrats again! I still can't believe how amazing of an opportunity you stumbled into having your selection between all those models. I will say, you made the right choice!

The right choice would've been to grab all of them! :)

Haha! Very true! If it was me I would have totally tried to pick up the Daytona and BLNR (wrist too small for the SkyD). That being said, if he could only pick one, he made the right decision.

Leaving the BLNR on the table wasn't that big of a mistake - that's more of a $1,500 arbitrage issue if I want that watch. But in retrospect I absolutely should have bought the black Daytona as well.

That said, I'm super happy to have a white ceramic Daytona on my wrist. It is the perfect fit for what I was looking for. Extremely comfortable and with a great history behind it. And I love elegant watches that have a lot of overt personality - this one most certainly does. I really couldn't be happier.

As a side note, having not sold a watch in 15 years, I'm selling two this week. One of them is a generation 2 white Vacheron Chrono - so in many ways a peer or competitor to the white ceramic Daytona. While both watches have their advantages, I am love with the Daytona whereas I always simply liked the VC as I found it a bit too understated.

At any rate, if I ever see a black Daytona again in an AD I'm buying it and keeping it. If I ever see a white Daytona at an AD again I'm buying it and letting a friend who helped me with a Sea Dweller purchase buy it at retail if he's interested.

Tomorrow, picking up the SD43 and will report back.
