Why do you even have a dive watch? I really can’t understand how people make a whole thread about should I wear my 9k plus dive watch to the beach.

Common misconception. Sea Dwellers have to be at minimum 100 ft from the sea and beach at all times.
In seriousness, I wear a TT DJ at the beach, so I’m sure your diver will handle it fine. |

Took an Explorer snorkeling a few times. One thing that does happen is the high polished sides will get very small scratches. Can't see it with bare eye, but with a loupe its pretty gnarly how many small scratches accumulated.
If trying to keep the watch mint avoid sand and water. That is all. |

You can only truly say that you own a watch after accepting that it will inevitably get scratches, dents and dings. Until then, it is the watch that owns you. In your case, don't let your sea-dweller ruin your vacations because I'm sure you deserve them.

I posted the normal “wear it” comment earlier. However, it might help if I clarified why I purchased a Rolex. My dad has a sub. When I reached the point that I could get a somewhat expensive watch, I honestly tried to not purchase a Rolex. I chose a Rolex because I wanted a tough watch I could wear doing darned near anything. I don’t want a luxury watch I have to worry about. I want a luxury watch I can wear with a suit as well as on a scuba trip or anything else I reasonably choose to do.
I have insurance on it. Stolen? Would suck. Will get monetarily reimbursed for its loss. Diving? It will do more than I’m certified to do. Hot tub? It’s stainless. Please... Motorcycle? If it can’t handle it then I shouldn’t have bought it (it can handle it...). Rolex is a different kind of luxury watch in my very novice opinion. It’s tough. Wear your damned watch. Love your damned watch. Get scars on your damned watch. Tell stories about each scar and smile while you’re recounting each one. Your watch is a hell of a lot tougher than you are (and me too). Enjoy it. When someone asks you about it, smile again, then tell them what you accomplished that led to your purchase decision. If you do something that “out toughs” your watch...brag about it. You just broke a Rolex. Congratulations! These things are tough SOB’s and I love that about them. Wear your watches, people! |

It is a Sea-Dweller, it will survive a day at the beach. Just clean it at the end of the day.

Your watch is tougher than you are.
Its a LOT tougher than you think. These watches were made to be worn. Not wrapped up in cotton wool. The clue is in the name ... SEA-DWELLER. Don't worry about a thing. If it does happen to get a small scratch or drop of water on the crystal don't worry. It will be fine. The beach and see are where they were meant to be.

Just because you can does not mean that you should. Your Rolex will stand up to most anything but I also have other watches that I enjoy and depending on what I am doing match the task as well or better. If you are here on TRF you obviously care about watches. I have used my Rolex watches for swimming in the ocean, pool and other various activities. No issues other than just the sand and oil which will rinse off. I am 25 plus years into ownership with Rolex and other brands and I can say it does not even cross my mind to wear my Rolex to swim, dive or really do much in that way. I don't even wear my Tudors for this. It is Seiko Diver or G-Shock for me. In the end it is a choice not a reflection on an owners character to do either. Just a choice.

Wear it and also get a seiko. Can’t go wrong with both.

This is like asking "Can I use my Canada Goose coat in the snow?"
Just like the coat is expensive, that's what it was specifically designed to do. Its a dive watch, it'll be fine dipping your feet in the sea. |

Wear it, but only if doing so will not bother you enough to ruin your day at the beach. If you're really worried about it, get a Casio G-Shock for $50 and store the Rolex someplace safe/secure. There is no shame in playing it safe with a nice watch.

If wearing it is going to cause concern and distract from your enjoyment of the beach, then definitely don't wear it. I'd recommend a gshock in that case. Great beach watch.
