Rolex confirms to not sell online

Kindly delete, if that has already been covered. Rolex confirmed earlier today, that they won‘t let AD‘s sell online. Source: Handelszeitung.ch

Thanks for this update. I wonder what the idea is behind this, because now they've essentially banned sales of Rolex during this pandemic.

I think ADs can still sell to existing clients specifically without having to do in person. Probably over the phone and shipping within state. Rolex more than likely is referring to digital storefronts.

In UK At least, all ad’s are close. And so are rolexes factories. So there’s nowhere to ship from, or to?

I don't believe that email communications is selling on line. Use normal communications channels and you'll be fine.

Patek is allowing their AD's online sales but this is not surprising.

I was thinking the same thing.

As to Rolex ADs - they are still 'open' here in Australia - but the majority are "by appointment" or very limited trading hours and number of customers in store at any one time.

With Rolex's control freak mentality, there was never a chance of giving AD's online liberty.
Rolex has enough retained profits to pay all its employees for 10 years without even blinking.

I certainly agree that the profits are huge, Steve. Haven’t those past profits been transferred to the Wilsdorf Foundation where they can’t flow back?

Do you know if people receive calls from AD’s in the UK to buy watches like what happens in the US these days?

And are you allowed to go and get them? Police in Melbourne are checking where you are going and fining you $1600 if it is not for essential food, medication, work or exercise

Good to see they are prioritising what is important. Why endanger employees for an item that isn't remotely essential. They have enough runway to ride this out whilst the obsessives just up the ante in wait.

enough AD's open in the World to sell. For example in Holland, you can still enter the AD and buy a Rolex that is in stock.

Not that I know of. WoS, which owns the majority of the AD’s is closed.

If they were open in the UK, technically speaking, a customer should not be making the journey to visit them anyway.

Correct. Could be an even more expensive journey with the possible fine.

While I'm not suprised Rolex aren't allowing AD's to sell online, with limited supplies anyway there isn't much point. I just can't understand why Tudor isn't.

Factories maybe closed and while you can't physically visit an AD there are plenty out there still trading with what they have in stock. Different brand but I had no trouble purchasing and receiving a new Omega from an AD this week.

More ADs are working from home, and have call forwarding set up. So while the store might be closed, the some AD staff are able to communicate with customers. Hopefully we can all get through this.

I got an email yesterday from an AD offering me one of the models I was previously interested in. I kindly declined for now!

Sorry to be such a downer everyone, but this is a watch forum. The right place to be concerned about watches.
