I think it just comes down to personal style and comfort and what you are accustomed to. There will be guys with 8-9 inch wrists who don't enjoy wearing anything larger than a classic 36mm watch. Then, there will also be people with a 6 inch wrist who won't wear anything smaller than a 44mm watch. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks cause if you are not comfortable wearing the watch, then you likely aren't going to wear it much.
For what it's worth, I think that the 36mm is a timeless classic size for a watch. If you love it, go for it.

I had the same issue with my 36mm Date Just, it took me ages to decide to buy it and I still wasn't sure when I got home but after wearing it for a few hours I loved it.
My opinion, if you like the watch and you're comfortable how it looks go for it. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

so true...
i see many smaller wrist guys on this site sporting 40mm-42mm watches and it looks like they're wearing wall clocks. i think some folks forgot some watches e.g. Rolex) wear big due to the larger case, lugs, etc... however, they are happy. then i see larger wrist guys wearing 36-40mm. some look sharp while other's appear to be wearing a kids watch. like you said, "it just comes down to personal style " and comfort and what you are accustomed to Quote:

A 36 DD on President does not look small on any wrist.

Here's the GQ article that was linked in a post here a few days ago recommending watches <38mm. For me it matters not so much the size but the function of the watch. It is nice to have some smaller options however with a 6.5in. wrist.

Don't see an issue considering the number of years that watches for most men were sized at 34-36 mm. Would watch brands deliberately have made them "too small" back in the day? Doubt it.

My wrist measures exactly 7” and I like my 36mm watches. I don’t think 1/4” would make a difference. I also like my 40mm GMT. I’m also definitely male.

Yes, I think 36 is too small for men. But only you can judge what is best for you.

I think 36mm is fine for a dressy watch like a datejust but it's too small for a sports watch unless you're a small person.

I know who he is and what roll he's playing. He's in character there and is trying to appear as a hoodlum and not as a normal citizen. Of course it would depend on the actor. I'd be more likely to emulate my wife's Italian father who was a Director of Research for Englehard Corporation, unfortunately now deceased.

I have 7.5" wrists, and my DJ41 and 36mm turnograph both look similar on my wrist.

I don't like 36mm watches on my 18cm / 7in wrist. I just find them small and feminine. I gravitate around 38-45 depending on style, either dressy or sports.

I have a 7" wrist and prefer 36 & 39mm watches. I own and enjoy larger, but prefer the mid-size watches.

7.5 inch wrist here. 36mm Datejust. I have never thought that this watch looked too small on my wrist.

Not from my point of view. I have a 7.25 in wrist and my five digit day date wears just fine.

Forget what others think. Buy the watch you want in the size you are happiest with. Your wearing it and it's you that needs to be happy with your choice.

For us old timers, the standard men's watch when I was young was 34-36mm.
If you like the look wear it, your wrist isn't too large for it. |
