So basically there is no way of knowing outside a subtle nuance in the blue colour, which does appear to be a deeper navy, on the other hand if you are colour blind there is not way of telling unless you look at the back side.

This is interesting, not only because it's pure vintage Rolex in it's randomness, but also the market prefers red backs over blue backs and I have a red back that looks like a blue back and a blue back that looks like a red back...

If you're color blind looking at the back wont help either!

Totally agree with you, and I am beginning to think there is no way. Maybe by the blue, maybe not.

I'm trying to learn and determine the 1675 insert variations and I stumble on this thread. Not much information available apart from Springer's aftermarket insert thread (thank you Springer). There's unfortunately no info like the one for Sub inserts showing the variations (mk1, long-5 and various mk3s).

I think this must certainly be the quote of day from the original poster;

I have a red back that looks like a blue back and a blue back that looks like a red back...

Are these two inserts red or blue back?

As a gambler I’d say blue/red. I own a couple blue back fat fonts that are nearly indistinguishable from red backs.

Left one is a blue back, right one is a red back.

You are right. I can't tell the difference really.
