Otherwise known as the 'Predator' grill. It totally turns me off from Lexus.

I love the mesh grille on the "nicer" Lexus models. It reminds me of my buddy's RS5 grille. I almost bought a Lexus over my 4 series because I loved the look.

We were in a similar spot only with the Avalon. My wife test drove both in the hybrid trim. In the end she went with the Lexus. My brother on the other hand went from an Audi A8 to the Toyota Avalon. Personally I thought they were both nice but it was my wife's car so I stayed out of it. The big advantage for Lexus was Toyota said they wouldn't negotiate and didn't. Lexus said they would not and did. So in the end we only paid $2000 more for the Lexus then where the Toyota dealer was holding firm on the Avalon. If you're looking at the two you mentioned you should check out the Avalon as well. Fully loaded it's very close to the Lexus but you're also paying close to Lexus prices for a Toyota.

I can see why you made the jump from Toyota to a Lexus. It's totally understandable.

Just as reliable as the Camry with a much nicer interior/dash.
If your riding for another 250k, at least enjoy it.

...But you didn't, and that's the important part! I'm partial to BMW myself.

I love cars. For me, driving a Lexus vs a Toyota is not even a question.

Not to say Toyota is a bad car. It's not. It's a great car. But it is not a Lexus by any stretch of the imagination. Not even close.
You know that Lexus IS Toyota right?

And that the ES is built on the Camry platform.
They both use identical engines and transmissions There's not even any difference in tuning as they both have identical output.

In these two cases, the difference I see is going to be service and warranty.
Lexus dealerships have much a better service record than Toyota dealerships. You have to decide whether that is worth the extra change.

Yes I know that Lexus is Toyota. But since about 2013 the ES 350 is on the same platform as the Avalon.

We just put a GS350 F sport in the garage tonight. Traded my wife's MDX. She wanted a car. She got a car.

We were Lexus people for a long time before the Acura.

The GS is an incredible car. Just wish it was a GSF, and not a GS F sport. They had 2 at the dealer, could t get off of the extra $20k to go to the grocery store and middle school.

Skip the ES and check out the IS 200t or 350, or gs. With the IS you get a rwd chassis, not a rebadged Toyota. The latest gen IS350 has been acclaimed as superior to the latest generation BMW 3-Series in terms of handling dynamics and build quality. If your instinct is going with a Lexus, go for it.

I own a 2015 and it's a fantastic car. Yeah you can own another watch, but it sounds like you drive well above the average. I spend about two hours in my car everyday and having a smooth, quiet ride with all the gizmos makes my commutes actually tolerable. My friend has a 15 year old Lexus GS and honesty id even rather drive that than a brand new economy car. Those things are built to last... If you can see yourself driving it for 15 years, spend the extra money and enjoy it.

Also, just an FYI, while the engine and trans in the V6 ES is shared with many toyota models, the IS / GS gets a much more powerful unit with direct & port injection and a much better 8-speed trans. I guess to answer your original question, I would not choose an ES over a Camry but would go for the IS / GS.

USALV,

my tongue-in-cheek response was not directed at you.
It was a response to superdog's response: "Not to say Toyota is a bad car. It's not. It's a great car. But it is not a Lexus by any stretch of the imagination. Not even close."
sorry if you misunderstood :)

While there some dealers that own both Toyota and Lexus, the Lexus dealers seam to be a cut above.
Most Toyota dealers can be a little shady IMO.

I just went from a 2014 Camry to a new Lexus ES 350. I don't think they are even close to comparable. Lexus tops in every way.

Thank you for the clarification.

I wasn't offended. You're right the Camry isn't a Lexus.

but I've had some really interesting experiences at both Lexus and Toyota while looking at the new cars. . But I hear you on that Toyota can be shady. They tried to charge me $1400.00 for a new alternator and to replace the idle air valve control( my car Would randomly just turnoff ) and my tree shade mechanic fixed my car for $95.00. He found a loose bolt on my alternator and he cleaned the throttle body.

I agree. I got the 2016 Es 350. I very happy and over the moon with this purchase. I got the pearl white color with the black interior with a rear lip spoiler

It is. The two cars aren’t really comparable. The Lexus ES is a much larger car and personally, I would recommend the Lexus as it is better equipped and more luxurious. Lexus service is top notch too.

Can’t go wrong with either one though.

Oops, didn’t realize this thread was more than a year old...

That's okay. No worries! I'm starting to receive better customer service from Lexus, now. Thank goodness. I had a few customer problems at first.

Thank you for the reassurance. I'm really happy with my ES350 even with the extra attention that it is getting.

you're so right. Thanks again. I wondered why my father pushed for me to buy the ES350. I understand why now.
