Damn...missed it.

In this case your low ball offer will still be above MSRP

brother, this is probably the most frugal group out there.

besides "is it safe" the most common thread I think is "what kind of discount can I get".

I think a key unknown in this equation is what price the reseller paid initially? If he paid 50% over retail then he's just passing along his cost plus profit. Certainly no one would object to that. On the other hand, if the reseller paid list price and is now exploiting the market based on limited availability then I personally would not have a problem with that either, though I understand those who might. It's capitalism. It's a business decision. No different than scalping tickets. Oh wait, probably not the best example.

What happens when supply catches up with demand? Presumably the discounts will return. Will the reseller now be stuck with overpriced inventory? Again, depends on his original acquisition cost. Another question. How was the reseller able to obtain the product originally? Waiting in line for days in front of the Apple Store to buy the first 'whatever' comes with a price, and should reasonably be passed on to the next buyer. Waiting in line for days in front of the Apple Store to buy the ENTIRE supply of 'whatever' to then resell at double the price seems a bit Machiavellian.

Bottom line. If I was able to walk into an AD tomorrow and buy the new ceramic at retail, and could resell it at double the price, would I? You bet I would, and you would too! Would I sell it to my friend at double the retail? Of course not.

Don't mix friends and business. At double the price you're not his friend- you're his client. Understand this and there's no controversy or hard feelings.

No need because that is what I and my entire family does for a living. I appreciate it though.

It's his watch, he can charge double retail if he wants. It's one of the first in the country on the reseller market and if someone wants one now, they'll pay for it.

If I had a 114500, you better bet your shorts I'd be selling it north of $20k too.

I was one of the first ones to jump at your comment but it was merely from a business perspective.

As a human being you are free to say whatever you please and at the time, you felt that your response was valid.

I applaud you for the apology but I do not think you needed to apologize to anyone.

I too, think it was very nice of you to apologize. I met David at the GTG in Vegas, and all kidding aside, he is a professional, a gentleman, and a good person. I have heard nothing but good (great) things about his business and wouldn't hesitate to buy from him. As for the prices he charges, hey, it's the buyer that decides if it's appropriate or not. If David made a profit on that watch, more power to him.

P.S. I only know that I am paying retail, and getting the first one that makes it to my AD (Ben Bridge)

X2, I'd put 25 on it and let em lowball me to 20, not his fault Rolex enthusiasts are a bunch of whack jobs with deep pockets rofl

Remember when SS Daytonas were selling for above MSRP for a good 5 year+ period? People gladly payed it too.

And there really was no need for an apology, paying that price should be more insulting to the purchasers intelligence than anything. David's just doing his job

Does anyone here wish to guess the margin for a single bottle of Pepsi if you only considered the COGS?
Methinks David is underneath that margin even at that price.
It's not even close the markup on a single bottle of Pepsi only considering cogs is something like 10x

It might be fair to say that he did not get this watch at his normal wholesale price? Therefore, profiting less than some are speculating and not being the greedy capitalist bastard they might have thought. Either way, someone bought it and they weren't offended by the price, that's all that matters.

I've bought two watches from Davidsw and the likelihood is I'll buy from him again. I just won't buy a DaytonaC from him anytime soon. I'll let the uber rich folks do that!

I think since this is a public forum, everyone is entitled to an opinion so I think it is fair what you said.

I have dealt with DavidSw many times and hes 100% reliable and a solid dealer for me. He really is a great guy.
