1680 Submariner crystal
Hi
I am considering fitting a flatter non cyclops crystal to my 1680 Sub as an alternative to the existing top hat crystal. Could anyone give me a suggestion with Rolex part number? Thanks |

A T19 dome may work?

As coincidence may have it, HQ Milton has a 1978 vintage 1680 Sub with a 5513 acrylic crystal installed for sale via their website. It actually looks pretty good....the non magnified date appears quite legible.

I just had the top hat crystal replaced on my 1680, which I had gotten from Michael M, with a T19 superdome:

Very easy installation. Michael Young sells replacement t-19 crystals and will ship them from Hong Kong. Takes about a week. (There a very recent thread on this here). I got two last year for a pair of 1680s. Absolutely love the look.

It's the Tropic 19 (Part number: 25-19).
Do you want a genuine T19 or an aftermarket? |

Yes, that makes sense. I had asked ABC Watchwerks for a superdome, and the invoice says t19, but you're right, it should be a t39.

Thanks. That looks nice. Is it a Michael Young T39? The sidewall sits higher than an OEM T39, but I think it looks fine. I've seen some other aftermarket T39s that have a really weird bulge in the middle, but this one looks really good.

I LOVE the look of the top hat. Just looks so right on the 1680. Surprised so many guys swap it for an incorrect dome (especially after-market), when so much else on this forum is dedicated to absolute "correctness," down to microscopic font on a dial, the exact curve of a "5" on an insert or the serial number range for a certain MK-whatever. I'm starting a campaign to keep the top hats!

That's why every collection should have two:

Call me a rebel, but I also like the dome, but I would like to see a low service dome profile. Blaspheme, I know, I know.

Still relevant today though! Although they're for my 9411, I have picked up a number of different T19 profiles to try! T39 is a step too far for me, mind!
