Icon4 Why is it that PayPal is not normally accepted on here?

I'm new to this group but I've been looking to purchase a Ceramic Submariner and the people I've been in contact with, will only accept a bank wire . That's all fine and dandy but I wanted pay half through my bank and the rest through my credit card on file with paypal. Kinda bummed because I don't want to wait as I'm ready ! Any explanation will help !
Cheers!

Because Paypal has been subject to much fraud in the forum watch world. They also charge big fees. Unless you have great references and a history here or elsewhere in a bonefide watch forum that can be confirmed. I doubt you will have much luck.

PayPal is good and I use it a lot but it sides very much with the buyer.

One you have established some 'cred' you will be good to go.

The most common problem with Paypal that has been cited by sellers is that if there is a dispute, the seller gets the short end of the stick relative to the buyer.

Fees are also a commonly complaint.

That pretty much summarised it. I also hate that EBAY forces you to use it!

Plus when someone files a Chargeback through their credit card that they use to back their PayPal the seller has to relay information to PayPal and PayPal takes your evidence and fights the chargeback on your behalf. They charge you ~$30 for it, take months while holding your money, and then lose anyway. Just my experience, I truly wish PayPal would implode or go bankrupt or something. Absolutely the worst company I've dealt with to date.

PayPal offers very little protection for sellers.

I also thought it was the fees. If you trust your seller, no need to pay fees or need for buyer protection.

I've read two instances here where there were issues and both times the TS's made it right.

Paypal allows the buyer to request a refund for up to 6 months.
Not too many sellers want to expose themselves to that liability.

Yup, me too. Never had an issue. And I don't mind covering the fee.

PayPal once withheld my money for 4 months for their "investigation". No-one complained, no disputes, nothing. They just decided they wanted to "investigate" why I had high 4 figures balance in my account. They released the funds a few hours after they received a letter from my solicitor. This after spending hours and hours over these months on phone with their customer service, who always said the same thing. "This will be reviewed within x hours" and after I explained no-one has done anything for x months, they said someone will call me back very soon (no-one ever did).
Absolutely disgusting company, I will never deal with them again.

PayPal isn't the primary issue - it's trustworthiness. Being a buyer without track record here makes the seller lean to a safer payment method: bank wire.

Yes, you had a doozy of a case with BHJ but it was the flake at the other end of the deal that made life miserable.
Had he been trustworthy then the PayPal would have been smooth, don't you think?

Always buy the seller! Who you are buying from is the most important part of a transaction. Check out references!

You'll need references or an on-line reputation to get most to use paypal and it won't happen after 11 posts.

Obviously none will accept selling a highly valued item through paypal to someone with no possitive record. Even if paid with "family or friends" a dispute is possible. There are tons of scammers on the internet..
