Nice, I have a pair of Quoddy's as well. They make some real nice casual leather shoes.

I’ve got 5 pairs of Quoddys Dan. I wear them all summer. Great shoes. I’m really wanting to try a pair of Rancourt LWB in shell but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

I don't have any of their LWB but I do have more than a few of Rancourts Cordovan shoes. In fact I choose Rancourt over Qouddy for the most part not only because of the ability to get their shoes in Cordovan but also because of their MTO web site configuration tool at the time. That and I found that I preferred Rancourts Ranger MOC design over Qouddys. However as far as quality goes I think I find both brands to be on par with the other.

That particular model is probably the most versatile and in my opinion the best looking boot out there. The EG Galway can be purchased on at least 4 different Lasts and virtually any leather or combination of leathers that EG has access too. But that particular version and leather just has to be the definition of a true country boot,

I forget if Wes was able to get a full bellows tongue but that is the one thing I wish I was able to get on mine.

They are magnificent for sure, but far out of my price-range as well.
I'll look into Edward Green & John lobb once I'm a little older and in a better financial position. Not very affordable for a student

Thanks, Bas. For sure the boots are expensive, but they're beautiful and feel incredible on the feet. People often buy cheap shoes, but if you think about it, in terms of wardrobe, we should be spending the most amount of money on our feet. They are what keeps us standing, after all.

Luckily, there are many other options for a more reasonable price. Wolverine 1000 mile boots, Alden Indy boots are two examples that I particularly like.

Yep, I got them with the full bellows tongues. I guess if I wanted to go all out, and assuming EG would do this (which I've yet to see), I could have opted for some commando soles, but the ridgeways are a nice compromise.

Wes, you really should have a look at the Viberg Service Boot in Chromexel.

Personally I find but a few models from John Lobb which I like but for the most part it’s Edward Green and Gaziano and Girling for me. Not only the way the way finish their shoes but their Lasts and actual designs as well.

I recently bought a pair of Red Wing iron rangers, they are obviously not made of such fine leather as Edward Green but I think they're great for every day.

I have to be careful visiting this thread, the enabling is strong here

You'll love those RW's a Long time Bas. Their durability is hard to beat and like brushed SS, dings and scratches will be hard to see.

I get, agree and probably understand everything you said with the exception of that last bit about being enabled.

Oh, and you really ought to check out Viberg when you get the chance.

Guys, I need some guidance.

Alden 403 or 405?

Saw some conflicting stuff online. They are both chromexcel?

The 405 according the website seems to have more widths. Something I might need. Trying to make a trip to the store here in the city sometime this weekend or maybe next week.

No, actually one being calfskin the other being Chromexel. Here’s a YouTube which might help.Frankly it’s hard to find a better leather than Chromexcel when it comes to inclement weather.

Thank you for posting the video Dan. Very informative along with your comments in this thread. I have been considering buying a pair but have been confused as well.

For wear and tare it definitely looks like the calf holds up much better but the color is a more difficult one to wear with many colors.
