consolidating collection vintage rolex to PP

Did any of you guys move completely from rolex to Patek?

I made the decision to go for 5070g several weeks ago and have a few people searching for a good example at a reasonable price for me. Although not imperative, i have been thinking about letting go some of my other watches that get less wrist time. Gilt 4 line 5512 that i baby too much and a few others. I have a well worn Maxi 5513 as a daily that goes everywhere with me and actually i get more satisfaction from.

Did any of you end up moving from vintage ( or modern) rolex or other brands to solely Patek?

Can't comment on the vintage Rolexes, but good luck with the 5070g, great move and you will love it.

I would not let either of those pieces go
The 5513,is a great daily wear and a gilt 5512 is hard to find

Try get rid of something else

The 5070g is a great addition

I don't think you'll regret going for a 5070g

I have my holy trinity, Rolex, PP and AP, I don't see myself not owning at least one of these.

Yes

I did. I still have two vintage Rolex pieces though, but I'm selling them.

The years of scrounging for genuine Rolex spare parts has left me jaded. A couple of months ago, I went into the RSC to get some leather straps for my two vintage pieces.

They either didn't know how to deal with a watch where they don't have spare parts to, or they weren't that interested. I got the straps, but I walked away feeling like I was tolerated but not much more.

I compared that experience to my regular experiences with the Patek Service Center, where if they didn't have the parts for my pieces, they would ship it, or manufacture it. Either way, I could let go of my scrounging-for-parts mentality. It was an assurance I got from the watch and brand. I enjoy Patek for work for they are discreet and elegant.

I gave up my gilt 5512, 5513 and meters first pieces as well as the other four-digit daytonas/explorers, and never looked back.

For my current rough-and-tumble lifestyle with two active young kids, I enjoy wearing a sensibly-sized diver like the SLA017. Also just ordered two Merci LMM-01 watches. I think these are my substitute Submariner and Explorer watches where I'm not afraid to swim in the ocean or hit them accidentally on a doorway, or more.

I still like looking at vintage Rolex. :-) But not to wear anymore.

I'm not selling or trading in any of my Rolexes but I will soon be acquiring my first PP (5196g) and maybe an ALS watch to diversify my collection.
The PP 5070 is a grail watch for me.

No, however I did sell three other watches to acquire my first Patek and have been very happy with the decision.

Nope, there are some Rolex models that I just would not sell even for a 5070 and that may be my favorite PP reference. Not possible for me not to have some Rolex, to each his own.

I think you need both. 5070P and 5512 gilt might be my two favorite watches I've ever owned.

There are too many great watches out there to restrict yourself to one brand.

I would keep at least one vintage. The 5070 in all metals is wonderful!

I would keep a few vintages around. Never know where the market could take them, could end up being an actual investment if you have had them for a while. Impossible to say that about a Patek.

Though if you are really through with them dump them.

I didn't move from vintage but did trade two Rolex towards my first PP but still plan on purchasing another 16610 or SubC as a beater one of these days.

I started with Rolex, move to VC,ALS,AP and Patek. After few years I actually sold the VC and Lange and come back to Rolex especially the vintage one, still keep the AP Royal oak and Patek. Enjoy this journey so far

I consolidated modern Rolex to modern Patek, it's a great experience. I felt as if I wanted something more from the horological world. People say Patek is overpriced, maybe they are right, but once you put a Nautilus on your wrist, you will never look back, unless it's for a 15202 or an equivalent.

thanks all, good to hear different opinions, i don't own any modern rolex, nor am i interested in owning any at the moment, the 5513 would stay as not worth the trade in and i wear it as my every day watch, i was thinking about the 5512 as would be a fair chunk of cash in its current condition. I am thinking i just need to wear it more and hold onto as much as i can for now.

I used to be almost exclusively a Rolex guy, with only a few other watches in my collection…I have been consolidating for about a years time, and in a few weeks I will see my once rather large collection, be reduced to just two… One Rolex (The first one I ever bought) and one Patek (5960/1A)…

Feels like the natural progression for me as I have been though A LOT of watches over the past 10 years. Don’t really need a lot of watches anymore…I will settle for one good Rolex and one clean Patek…

Also consolidated 5 Modern Rolex into 2 Pateks, will see how it goes, but certainly don't miss them yet!!

Only Rolex that I'm interested in nowadays would be a nice vintage Sub and maybe a Ceramic Daytona

I think a Day-Date nicely rounds out a collection along with a sub. Nothing beats Rolex on a bracelet and nothing beats Patek on a strap.
