The weekend getaway in pictures - Marco Island

Spent a long weekend at the JW Marriott in Marco Island. Can't say enough good things about the resort, and the boys definitely had an awesome time.

Didn't bring the Fuji along this time, but tested out my new phone's camera and it didn't do too badly! Still, it doesn't quite replace the x100v...no surprise there.

We actually had dinner there on Friday night! Had the lobster boil. Definitely a great place, and they had the live music going too.

Nice pictures. Marriott looks great. It was looking a little tired, but was renovated a few years back.

Yes - the new building that they've added is great.

Great pics. You take such great vacations! There aren’t such great escapes in NY, and hesitant to put the little kids on a plane.

Flash back 60+ years - the spot you slept on Marco Island was like this...

We caught Snook by cruising the beach looking for their tails as they sought breakfast.

Lots of love for that island and Goodland where we rented cabins (more like shacks) underneath the swing bridge owned by the bridge keeper.

That's awesome!

Reminds me of the old Coronado pictures when there was absolutely nothing there....

Appreciate it

We try to get out as much as we can, even now in this crazy world. We do take maximum precautions - masks on and try to socially distance as much as possible.

Like many young families, both working full-time with the boys at home, so we need the release from time to time!

That's really an amazing picture. Love Marco, always cool to look into the past at a popular vacation spot.

So many barrier islands have been completely commercialized. I'm proud Georgia has protected so many of ours.

Love that photo'.

Makes me feel a bit sad, seeing these places, 'developed'.

One thing about Florida - there are still lots of strips of land that look just like that

True - the island just south of Marco was saved from development and there are thousands of islands between it and Key West.

While I grew up watching the development at Marco and other islands nearby - there are no laments.

Just consider all the wonderful memories it affords young families whose children will show your pictures saying, “I remember Marco before all these high-rises were built along the shore (like Miami).”

Looking at your pictures reminded me that what we often hear as Paradise Lost is someone else’s discovery as Paradise Found. Glad you enjoyed it.

FYI, there is a very cool video of Marco c1960s on Wikipedia. It's worth a look. It's likely taken at the same time 77T was there catching snook for breakfast.

Looks like you had a blast. We are MVC owners and that's one I haven't been to yet, the Marriott Crystal Shores which looks to be right down the street from JW. My wife took the kids to visit a couple years ago and I've been itching to visit ever since. It's a bit of a drive from Michigan, but hope we can go next year sometime. Keep posting the pics for those of us traveling virtually these days!
