Help with 6241 Daytona
The brother of a close friend of mine passed away recently and he left this Daytona. From what I've been told it was his from new (papers haven't been found though), and they are struggling to determine an approximate value for it. I am not very versed on Daytonas, and I know prices are all over the place, but if you could comment on the watch itself, potential values or ways to find out what it might be worth I'd appreciate it.
They are currently cataloguing his items and haven't determined if they want to sell or not but an approximate valuation would be the first step. Serial number is 237**** Thanks |

You inbox is probably full...
I am not an expert this looks really nice. Pretty sure later bracelet but that is no big deal. Value is significant. I won't speculate you tend to see these listed for sale north of 50k. |

if it's true careful with it. value could be huge especially if full kit is found.

Assuming the kit is found, would you venture to put a number to huge?
checked inbox and seems fine... |

Haha, sometimes people are looking to message you to purchase the watch that has been uncovered.
https://www.chrono24.com/rolex/dayto...id10474111.htm The asking price on this example is 97k |

One think I've noticed is that most of the 6241s I've seen with this dial configuration have the DAYTONA inscription in black, whereas this one is in red. Is that good, bad or makes no difference? |

Still a very nice/cool Daytona, but value-wise it takes a big hit because of the service dial. To find a value, you can peruse the sales sections here and over on VRF, archives of well-known dealers, Chrono24 and even eBay, just to get an idea. The tricky part will be finding an example with a service dial, of course. |

I believe the red daytona text are later models from what I understand.
I really know more about subs and gmts, Daytona's have always been beyond my grasp to afford in the vintage world and I don't know nearly as much about them, but I do know you have a hellofa watch on your hands. |

Thanks Swish, I was pretty sure the "Big Reds" were not 6241's. To the OP, still a hechuva watch, but the service dial will be an impediment to some collectors. Still an awesome watch in my honest opinion.

Thanks guys
Would you say the replacement dial takes away 20%? Or would it be more significant? |

It's not even a good choice of replacement dial given that it's from an Oyster ie. screw down pusher watch which a 6241 isn't. It needs another dial...

Here is what the original dial would have looked like, presumably. |

Would this be the correct dial then?

I would agree with Swish. Finding a nice original dial would not be easy as well as being expensive.

Sotheby's, Christies or Bonhams could give you a rough estimate of what you could expect the watch to go for at auction . To me this is a better indicator of value or what something is worth. Than looking at a retail price on a website.
