Project X Diver
There is a local Dealer I work with that has a Project X Diver for sale.
I am normally totally against DLC Coating on watches, but this thing is awesome. My concern is Resale Value/Ability. Will this be a hard watch to move should I ever want to sell it? Will it hold its value? His asking price is very reasonable considering what Project X Designs charges for the watch. I would be trading a 16570 Polar Explorer (That I never wear anymore) along with Cash if I decide to pull the trigger. Anyone here have a Project X Diver? I have never seen one in the wild before seeing his today. I have included a picture in case your not familiar with the watch, and a link to Project X's page describing this beauty. Thanks! Why not wait for the Ceramic diver? I would assume AP wouldn't service it?

While I normally don't like customized watches, this actually looks good.
Difficult to say about re-sell value. While I like it, I wouldn't buy it, as something as high-end as an AP, is best when it comes factory original.

I'd be very concerned about buying an ap, which basically
Has zero grey parts availability - which even ap might not service. Also , the dlc does wear. It's not 100% scratch and ding Proof, so you'll need to recoat and reassemble before resale. Just too complicated IMO. Does look "cool" tho. |

I won't recommend it. Would rather go for the full ceramic model which is boutique exclusive and guaranteed serviceable by AP. The modified Diver certainly looks cool, but I prefer factory original for high end timepiece.

Looks cool. Would check with AP if they will service before I considered it as an option any further. If AP ok to service then hell yes. Worry about resale when you come to sell it. I buy watches that I like to wear not because they have a good resale value. Good luck

I think it does look pretty good, that blue second hand is quite lovely.
Not sure I would buy it though as if I wanted a black watch I'd rather go with a FC or a Ceramic, I'd prefer to buy an all original AP at that price.

If the concern is resale, you should probably stay away from this. If you buy the regular ss diver and pay list you will get hurt on resale. The going rate for a BNIB is about US$13,500 giver or take a couple hundred dollars (list $18,900). This watch is effectively twice the going rate of the stock ss diver (you did not say what this person is selling it for so I am comparing to the info at the link), but a much narrower pool of people to whom this would be of interest. Add in the risk that the DLC is chipped or otherwise not perfect when you try and sell and I think you are going to take a beating on resale. And if this person is selling at substantially less than what Project X charges that also should tell you something about resale value.
I would be curious to see one and how the case looks after the DLC coating. One of the big attractions for me of the diver (I have both ceramic and ss) is the finishing of the case and the brushed case and bezel. Does the DLC coating diminish the fine details of the brushed case? Don't know but I am not sure I would risk it. Of course, if you are never going to sell, it really doesn't matter as long as you are happy with it. |

Just checked out their website. What they did to the 5712 and 15305, among others, is criminal.

While I live to mod everything else, when it comes to watches, I leave them be outside of the minor things like straps, etc. Maybe bc to me, it makes the watch look unoriginal and fake.

Oh yeah, resale wise, it's a niche so it's not going to be the easiest watch to resell...when a local dealer has a good deal for you and you don't personally know them, there's a reason for that lol

It's pretty but I'd rather get the ceramic.

Agree it looks great!
Also agree with all your reservations, so unless you absolutely have to have it, i would pass. |

Going to check it out one more time late next week after Christmas. Maybe test drive it for a few days. The dealer that has it is a personal friend of mine. He let's me try stuff out for a few days before buying sometimes. I wore a Full Carbon of his for almost a week before deciding to keep my SS Diver. I really liked the dark color of the Full Ceramic, but didn't like the weight. I want to fell the weight of the watch, I like knowing it's on my wrist. That's why I love the SS Diver. I might hold out for the Ceramic Diver. I have read they have a very similar weight to the SS, or at least are heavier than the Full Carbon. Thanks for all the feedback guys!

I would get a full ceramic and mod it to get rid of the orange. I actually asked the 57th street boutique about this a couple months back and they said they wouldn't let me do it until the ceramic has been around a few years, but maybe they would let me after that. I do love the blackout! Much better than having the yellow or orange accent.
