Congrats and welcome to the forum!

My advice is to wear the watch as much as you can, and build memories with it

It's already happening. Looking at some point at either a Sub or GMT. But reading here tells me that may be a little while. At this point I have no intention of buying from the greys.

Hi Marty, welcome and congratulations!

Regarding editing posts, different forums handle this task differently. Here, (I believe) you have a limited time, maybe an hour after posting, to edit.

We have some things in common; I’m an older guy, too, (I can no longer deny it, as I turn 60 this month!)

I, too, always wanted a Rolex and just got one a few months ago. (Link to my Rolex journey in my signature below)

Plus, I’m not financially in the position to spend a lot on watches.

But for me, that’s not a problem. When I came to this site, I wanted one watch and one watch only...the Rolex Submariner. Though I never thought I’d actually own one, I knew that if I did get one somehow, I’d be a one watch guy.

(Much to the chagrin of the other members here...they must be tired of me posting multiple pictures of the same watch, over and over...ha,ha!)

You mentioned your reluctance to deal with grey dealers. I understand that; before coming here, I’d never even heard of grey dealers but as I researched and learned, my feelings about them has changed.

Initially, I was only going to buy from an AD, mostly simply for my own protection, but eventually went with a trusted seller because I decided to get an older model instead of new.

Post some pics and have fun searching the site, there’s a lot here!

Best to you,

Michael

Sadly, after reading these forums for a couple of days, it seems it may be a LONG time before I can get a second Rolex.

I am thinking either a Submariner Hulk or a GMT-II Pepsi. But seeing as how my local S. AZ dealers can't seem to get them in stock, it is going to be a long wait.

And I am not really comfortable going the grey market route even with all the info I can find here on TRF.

But that's okay really. I suspect I will be spending way to much time here doing research.

Welcome and congratulations! I’m fairly new to the forum myself so there’s a lot of information to take in.

First thing though is just to enjoy your watch. As for a second watch, you might want to consider a Tudor GMT. It is more available, affordable and I think is a very similar to the aluminum bezel Pepsi. I would have never considered one myself before but I’ve come around to Tudors. Just a thought.

I am pushing 70 fairly hard. Still healthy and active and fingers crossed. Financially sounds like we have similar circumstances.

I somehow find myself really liking the jubilee on either a Pepsi or maybe a batman. If I go Sub it will be a SubC/date. Just what attracts me. The hulk really grabs me but it may attract more attention than I want. Time will tell. As to a pic of my OP, 3 more posts to go.

I Have admired Rolex for years and finally decided to bite the bullet and get it.
I have only had it for a week and really enjoying it.

I have bookmarked the "Forum acronyms and vocabulary" thread and intend to try and learn them all, and there are a LOT of them.

All that said, and I will read through this whole forum, any tips for a first time owner who is nearing his 70's?

Thanks
Simply enjoy it!!! Wear it in good health, and don’t mind the scratches that are a reminder of your life’s journey! Congratulations and cheers!!!

Thanks. I have a Tag Heuer, (am I allowed to mention that here) that I have owned for 30 years. Still running great but it's time to send it in for some TLC. The lume on the number spots is mostly gone or flaked off, the crown has literally worn smooth where it rubs against the wrist, the bezel has worn, etc etc. But not once in those 30 years did the watch ever falter. All I have done is change the battery every 3-4 years.

If my new OP can last at least as long and well, I will be happy.

Well, at least these forums don't seem to be nearly as bad as the corvette forums. OMG, the amount of back biting and false info getting spewed there is mind bending.
