Thanks everyone for the welcome! Now you can be peppered by my incessant questions.

So as I start to look around I'm left with a lot of questions... mostly surrounding dealers, used but mint, grey market, how to get the best deal on a new watch, generations and serial numbers, etc... What's the story with grey market watches or all these watches in the classifieds that are used but in mint condition, some even with stickers on them. Is there something to be afraid of here? How much is reasonable to discount versus a full retail version from an AD (and for that matter what's a reasonable discount from an AD)? How does the whole warranty situation pan out with these? Seems like a lot of talk about serials and dial series, etc... especially with the green sub. Does any of this really matter? Basically I want a new or like new watch with all the upgrades (ceramic, etc), these fine nuances in the shape of a letter on the dial etc don't really matter to me. Are there a lot of green subs out there that have been converted over from black ones, and if so, how to tell if one is an original hulk or a modified one? I'm going to Canada in a couple weeks (Vancouver), maybe the strong dollar would be a way to get a better deal there on a new one than here? |

You don't need to worry about converted Green Subs, or any of the dial variants. If you are talking about Ceramic models, don't worry about the serial numbers either. If you are buying used you might be interested in when the watch was sold based on the warranty card. This just for a price adjustment, but condition Is everything. Not a big fan of the Green Dial Sub, so I would suggest Black. Even if you get your uncle's watch it will be different than the new one. In the long run, black is much more versatile than Green day to day.
Lots of info here on buying from different sources, but many will chime in.

Welcome to the forum. Does your uncle have a drinking problem? Not cool to make promises you don't keep to nephews.

Thanks guys. I'm now leaning towards a black sub to start with and just trying to find the best deal I can from an AD either in the states or in Vancouver when I go there next month. Although if I get it soon, I can wear it to a black tie gala with my tux that I have planned next weekend... hmm...
The more I think about my uncles, I do know he ran it over with his truck once! I think he perched it on the tire for a minute and forgot... Thing was totally fine. He got it serviced to clean up the scratches. I thought the TRF forum might enjoy that story. |

Check for DavidSW in the For Sale section (and also check his website). I believe he has a couple NIB. You will not find a better seller here to deal with.

Update: a BNIB 116610LN is on its way to me. Delayed a day by Fedex but should show up tomorrow. Will be perfectly in time for a black tie gala I have this weekend as it will match the tux in classic 007 style :)

While I'm waiting, I shot a pic of my current watch. You can see the kind of hairline wear in the bracelet that I'm upset about... so I'll start daily wearing the Rolex and probably get the Breitling cleaned up to wear less frequently. |

The sub is here!
Here's it in the box and next to my current daily wearer Breitling. I think I need to get one more link taken out... even with the glidelock slid all the way in it's still just a hair loose. I intend to dive with this thing though, so I would be happy to have a lot of room available on the glidelock, and now I'm worried taking another link out will put me back towards the end of the clasp with not much adjustment left. Anyways, I'll play with that a bit. |
