Waiting for 16710 prices to go down?

Have a friend looking to buy 16710 but not too willing to pay the inflated pricing now. It should drop if waited a bit longer right?

These are neo vintage model which Rolex does not make them anymore. The full set in good condition will just get harder to find.

Looked at a full set two years ago for $7000 and thought price was inflated and decided to wait till it come down!!!!!
Ended up paying over $10000 for a similar set, (will post incoming thread this weekend!)

The 16710 has only one direction to go........ UP

That means the consensus is that the watch is no longer produced. The prices can only go up? Why 16610 is not that inflated?

As others have previously said, “The best time to buy a watch was yesterday.”

I paid a smidge over $10k for my 16710. It was near as hell a full set. Yes it was more than i wanted, but it was a gamble: wait till i earn more and hope my earnings have increased more than the market value, or get it now and risk it losing value.

Ultimately, i have no intent to sell it ever (deity of choice) willing.

Going up forever. They dont make them anymore. There are many many more subs than 16710.

I have a Pepsi for sale BTW!

i presumed that it is much more easy to get a good set of 16710 in Hong Kong? Hong Kong should be the place where everyone wears a rolex? There could be some NOS pieces hiding in the ADs.

i don't get the full set thing. If you intend to wear the watch and never to sell it. is the original warranty paper so important?

if you intend to wear it. the certificate does not matter that much?

maybe the watch should be in decent shape.

It is subjective but I’m full set guy whereby I like to collect original warranty paper and box when possible. And I believe most of us do want to collect the warranty paper if given chance.

for me i care more about the shape of the watch. since I am wearing it out.

i did not have another look at my warranty certificate after filling in my name back in 2006.

Well, I guess they have records of the transactions made through them.

Don’t know how accurate this is, but it is very impressive to me.

Like you say papers shouldn't make a diff, particularly if you don't plan on selling. However the extra premium for full set appears to be 1k$ range now for these classic models. Provenance is important to collectors. Weirdly I don't plan on selling my 16710 but I'm certainly happier that I have the papers for it.

16710 is a superb watch in every respect and one that appeared to have started to increase in value even before the recent SS sports supply hiatus and all the ensuing drama. It seems to have further increased in value since then. I am probably one of the many who held off on buying for too long (and this was after I flipped a mint one to my eternal regret a few years back) waiting for the increase to level out. I was then just very lucky to land one (Z serial complete) at what was still a pretty good price to me. My advice to anyone seriously looking for one would be to go for one now if you turn a good one up. Could future value drop? Yes, it's possible but not that likely unless there is a serious turn around in Rolex's SS sports strategy going forward.

Nothing Rolex currently makes is a patch on these. This doesn't appear to be changing for the foreseeable and modern equivalents being released seem to be the trigger for the price spike. This jubilee stuff has all been done before, even better. I've said it before - short of dropping the maxicase nothing will curb 5 digit demand. They're a sexier watch. Jubilee, Oyster, Pepsi or coke it doesn't matter!

I think the current issue is there is no MSRP for these watches anymore as it is no longer in production. If there are buyers willing to pay means they will likely keep those and reduced the number of units in the market

LOL. Is that a common saying round your way?

I plan on keeping my full set Z Pepsi. But I don’t see it as 5 digit vs 6 digit. Rolex make some very nice new iterations of these. The fact that the 16710 is now a decade out of production means it will surely only keep going up.

Waiting for 16710 prices to go down?

I don’t think they will go down; not in a meaningful way and only as a temporary, fast blip. If you are going to wear it and are not at all considering it “collectible”, don’t bother with a full set. Save some $, get watch only and enjoy it.

Why is the price spiking? Overall supply and demand madness plus the fact that this is 6+ watches in one. The only piece where you can easily and legitimately change the insert, plus 2 bracelet choices which were OEM. Mine will never be sold.
