100% agree. Buy a well used but unpolished black bezel. Save 1000s. Spend 700$ the moment you get it and send to RSC, ask for coke or pepsi insert to be fitted when they service. You’ll get back a watch that is selling for 3-4k more in pepsi guise...

Not true. The black bezel versions aren't noticeably different than the others. Check Chrono and davidsw and you'll find many black bezels trading for equal or more based on condition.

There is way too much debt and speculation going on again. When China's bubble pops, watch out. Chaos. Worldwide.

Rolex prices will be impacted.

I don't think the price of 16170 and 16610 LVs will plummet. Maybe steady out. Level off. Not like the "Oh I should have bought 6 months ago!" that is happening now.

There will be some people that own them that will need cash and sell but these are not being made anymore and good examples with papers will hold their value.

I've check with RSC Singapore. They do not allow changing of color bezels other than the color that came originally with the watch.

London St James's RSC definitely (as of three weeks ago) still allow insert changes (and allow you to keep your old one for a small fee). Hong Kong and Taipei definitely do not.

Not everyone can afford to go uk to get a watch serviced. And if u bring it to rsc Singapore with the wrong bezel color. They will ask you to change it back.

I was just giving information. What action or decision you make on the back of that is up to you. I’ve lost count of how many times someone on here has said to go to a watchmaker with a parts account. Such beasts just do not exist in HK. No need to worry about what can’t be done, just find ways to do what you can. Be positive :)

Most 16710's left the factory with no record of what colour bezel was fitted from new.

I've got four of them, all bar one has been through RSC for service and in all cases i've had the bezel insert re-newed and paid the extra to keep the original insert. On two of the three, I had the insert changed to a different colour. RSc were unable to tell me which colour bezel had been fitted to the watch from new. These were for 16710's manufactured in 2003 and 2004 and 2005. The one remaining 16710 I have not yet serviced at RSC was manufactured in 2009, right at the end of production of the reference.

I took my A-Serial to the RSC in Seoul. It is an original Pepsi (per the original hangtags), but I had a LN bezel insert, and hoped they’d let me switch to a Coke. They took the watch, ran the number, and then told me it was a Pepsi, and they’d only put in a Pepsi.

Of course, I got my LN insert from an AD in the US, and as well as a new Pepsi insert (keeping my old faded version) — but that was a long quest. Places very — but if you can find an AD or RSC that will swap and allow you to keep your original that is a great find!

Define "a bit longer." Could be tomorrow, could be next decade.

Maybe in London but in the US the warranty card will say A, B, or C and that will determine what it was born as......and Rolex does know.

When Rolex corrects the disaster which is the modern GMT lineup and they can be found
for sale in showcases you will be able to get a great deal on an old used 16710.

Prices have never dropped. They may rise more slowly than CPI, but never down.

The economic system is feeding itself, so the dreaded recession which is the only way that will cause the drop in prices, will never happen. I was in Hong Kong twice last year, each time I passed on buying the blnr for $2k over list in grey price. Had I took the opportunity, I could have an easy $12k. The best time to buy is today.

These prices might level off eventually but I don’t ever think that they are going to drop. I predict that the next crazy price hike will be the 14060, mark my words.

If its a true BLRO it will denote this on the green swimpruf tag i.e 16710 BLRO.... sadly most of these have gone missing now. Black will usually say 16710 LN

It will only say A, B or N on the warranty after ~1999. Before that they were all labeled 16710A. Hang tags usually had the insert color, but those are usually the first part of a set to disappear.
