I've been watching 16710s for the last 2 years and saying 'No Way' while the prices kept going up. The right one (full set, one owner) found me a few weeks ago.Trigger pulled, now I feel much better watching it on my wrist.

Prices will go down when people stopped collecting or cares about watches. Since most younger people likes wearing smart watches, I can see prices going down in about 50 years from now.

I could see a recession bringing down the price to $8k MAYBE? The reality is that there aren't actually that many full box/papers set that haven't been overpolished.

I don't think the prices are going to shoot up, it'll be a steady increase from here on out. It was also very difficult for me to accept the price on the 16710 but ultimately I didn't want to finally decide to buy the watch only for it to be $15k.

I'd recommend you be patient and try to secure the best set possible at a decent price. I've seen incredible full sets on this forum sell for $2k less than far less desirable pieces. In the 5-digit game you got to play it patient.

That being said, I stand firm and consider this the greatest GMT reference ever made. Jumping hour hand, amazing proportions, classic looks with a lot of modern build quality, 3 bezels, and 2 bracelets.

Here’s my 16700, full set that I bought new in 1995 for $2250, most of my savings after grad school.

You made good choice back then mate. Congrats. I do love the 16700 too and considered myself to have this reference in my collection.

Brilliant watch - probably going to become even more epic given the worsening SS position. Might en up becoming one of Rolex's best ever?

A lot fewer and only a small amount of those are even worth buying. Those early gloss dials had issues and many of them have been replaced over the years.

Glad I paid $3,100 for mine new. Back then they would be in stock on display. It was only hard to find a SS Sub date and SS Daytona.

Glad I purchased mine from a reputable TRF grey almost 2 years back. If I were to guess they could dip back to 9k or less for full set examples but then steadily rise from there if and when there is a dip in the economy, until then this is my all time fav daily watch 70% of the week.

Well I have just put down a deposit for a 16710. An immaculate full set from 2003..
The box
Outer case
Both Swing tags one with serial number. And 16710BLRO sticker the other being the certified tag.
It has original receipt
Instruction manual
Wallet
Calender for 2003
And a fabulous double folded set of punched out papers
The box and papers are in as new condition

The watch is single owner and has been well cared for
It has sat in a drawer for the last 10 years

The watch has a fabulous COKE bezel which has patterned to a wonderful Salmon colour.

The watch maker got it in this week and had been servicing it
When I asked if he had anything nice in the back

I went into the workshop and saw the watch ..stunning

I never saw the whole watch only parts of it
I looked at the case and the bracelet. All of the workings were in bits and going in the bath. I will be picking it up next Friday fully working serviced, cleaned and ready to go. Can't wait to see it together

I am well chuffed. The Rolex ADs have done me a favour by not having any modern sports watches.

This is a collector's piece which will go up in value.
Infact a collector's dream

Pics next Friday.
The original owner asked for the coke Besel when he bought it .. I am so glad it has the Pepsi swing tag as it's different and nice to have ..I won't have it converted back ..it does however add a bit of history to this superb watch.

I had an early 2000s Sel no holes case with all 3 inserts that I sold when prices started to rise a few years ago. Since I have been collecting this is really my one and only regret. Not because I wish I would have held out for more money, but because I realize now what a great and versatile watch that was. Will likely buy one again but painful to know that I'll be paying more than twice what I originally bought it for!! And yes, I only see prices leveling off or going up...not down

Agree they are scarce and good luck finding a full set with a good case and hands that aren’t messed up. I got lucky with mine but it doesn’t have papers and that’s ok with me.

They’re not making them anymore and the full set not over polished ones are scarce!!
The more time goes by, the less they will become available. It might plateau for a while then steadily go up but I don’t foresee them going down
I’m glad I got mine earlier this year and it’s a keeper for my boy after me!
