For sale is a near mint condition 40mm stainless steel Tudor OysterDate Chronograph. The 79170 was originally sold at an authorized dealer in 1995 and comes with complete box and papers. Included in the kit are the inner and outer boxes, instruction booklet, warranty papers, burgundy leather wallet, and hang tag. The silver dial is accented by black sub-dials at 6, 9 and 12 with a date window at 3 magnified by the cyclops crystal. The dial is surrounded by a black graduated 12-hour bi-directional bezel. The brushed 78360 oyster link bracelet has 589 end links and has very little stretch. The bracelet has 10 full size links, comfortably fitting a 7.3 inch wrist with the microadjust slid in. The Valjoux 7750 movement used in the 79170 was the first automatic chronograph from the Wilsdorf group, used about 12 years before the first Daytona chronograph. Because of the thickness of the movement, it required a larger case, hence the name “Big Block.” It was the thickest case used by any Rolex or Tudor model until the Deepsea Sea-Dweller.
