Clean your watch please

I don't particularly like this, and it is super common and often way worse than this.

Brrrr, that's ugly, I would be very ashamed to send it in for service this dirty.
Apart from showing disrespect for your profession it takes away the fun of working on it for you I suppose.

A huge surcharge is in order

This amount of dirt easily accumulates underneath the bezel and generally isn't visible when you wear it.

This DateJust here was just utterly revolting.

I rinse my watches all the time during work, warm water w light hand soap and dry with toilet paper that seems to absorb the build up in between links and dial areas. I always enjoy seeing your posts with pics.

Out of interest, what's the best way of cleaning under the bezel without having to pop it off?

What would be your recommended way to clean the watch? Would really appreciate to hear from you. Thanks.

Most people don't understand that watches can be washed.

I can't recall the number of times people have been shocked when I tell them to wash their watches.

"You can wash a watch?"

Even here on TRF, half the pictures people post are of watches with smudges all over them. Greasy crystal pictures are the worst.

I’m also curious about cleaning under the bezel.
Can all bezels be removed by the average joe or is it something you wouldn’t recommend?

That DJ is just plain disgusting, so sorry you are having to handle something so gross to even look at.

Interested in knowing if periodic (weekly) warm water with dawn dish washing detergent could help prevent nasty built up underneath the bezel.

As always, thank you for taking the time to post these very informative threads

Just a simple rinse. It will always accumulate some dirt, which is totally fine. But the other example of the datejust is where I just get mad. If I were to have the contact with the customer I'd tell them to wash it first, dirty animals.

Take 2 minutes with a soft toothbrush and some hand soap. Amazing the amount of gunk that come out even when cleaned regularly.

Yikes! Bet that bezel did not rotate...When I was doing vintage watches, I was always amazed by how many I bought that had gunk under the bezel. 4 digit Subs and GMTS it takes like 30 seconds to remove the bezel and clean and re attach.

A former co-worker of mine had an old DJ with a jubilee bracelet so beat that the watch would slide from his wrist to halfway up his arm. I doubt it was fitted that loose when he bought it! I asked if he ever had it serviced and a got a blank stare. And believe me he certainly could have afforded the service.

I use a product called Wristclean along with a soft bristle brush and usually clean 1-2 times a week, I would be ashamed to own that watch in that condition.

Exactly. I would like to see the cleanliness or lack of it concerning his house. Probably showers once a month whether he needs it or not!
If you have the time to shower daily, get dressed in clean clothes, brush your teeth and shave, you certainly have 3 or 4 minutes to wash your watch and clean the daily nastiness off it with a little Dawn, warm water and a brush or cloth.
