buy.

However when we return to the US and are getting two vehicles at the same time we will probably buy mine and lease my wife's for a few years and then buy, only to space out the replacement cycle. We both tend to keep cars long term and don't change that often so buying is a better option. Plus i know what i want already, she doesnt, so a lease buys her some additional time to figure it out.

My wife and I like new cars and we happen to like German cars, which happen to have great residuals, so leasing makes sense to us. We both work from home too so we barely put 10,000 Miles per year on each car. All in it definitely costs money to drive a new car, so it’s nice to actually keep our cash in the bank. Leasing definitely doesn’t make sense for everyone though.

Lease 100%.

Refuse to deal with car depreciation and all the issues that start after the 3rd yr.

I don't drive much, so I just leased for the first time. I've financed and bought before.
The last one I financed I kept for 2.5 years and lost a ton on it. I think i wouldn't buy/finance new if you plan on keeping it only three years.

Depends on the lease v buy v tax benefits v cap cost calculation.

But overall I’m a fan of leasing as I dive deep into the numbers and like a good contract with options.

Buy.

Work car gets 20-35K a year. Not good for a lease.

My off road vehicles get modified for long range camping and exploring and the lease company won't like that either.

Bought all my cars, but haven’t spent over $1,000 on one. My first car was a 95 2dr Tahoe, still have it, a 98 riviera supercharged(still have it) a 94 Saturn I blew up drifting, an 03 grand marquise and currently drive an 01 grand marquis. Spent about $3,000 on all of them. No regrets. I work on my own vehicles so repairs are always cheap. Idk if I would be a new car guy even if funds allowed it. My father can afford whatever he wants, he ended up restoring a 93 Oldsmobile touring sedan for a commuter, bought an 08 Cadillac DTS with 19k on it for $19k in 2010 and still drives it, and has our suburban he bought new in 2000. I don’t have time to take my car to a track nor do I have the funds to purchase a track car. My Grand Marquis is a blast to drive, cheap to insure and parts are common as can be. Extremely spacious as well, only pitfall is it guzzles gas and RWD sucks ass in MI winters. But I prefer RWD so it’s the price I pay.

Andromeda reminds me of an old friend

He did not want to spend over $800 on a car. They would have problems, only last a year or two, but he paid less for the car than some people pay per month.

I always bought, but now semi-retired. I could lease, but I am uncomfortable leasing.

for me, buying makes more sense. I typically buy a car thats a few years old and then keep them 5 years or so.

I like to buy new and pay a large enough down payment that with trade-in, I only need a small loan, if any, to drive off the lot.

That hasn't always been the case, but I like the way that works and I plan to keep it up.

Buy, for sure! We live in LA and requires so much driving that leasing limits would not make sense. Cost-wise, buying also beats the variance of having to use your car too little/too much based on what you pay for a lease.

Leaning buy. I don’t like to think about mileage constraints. Can always sell if unhappy. Never owned a car less than 4.5 years, so 3 would go fast for me.

If it’s a tech-centric car, always lease. Plastic components don’t like hot and cold temperature fluctuations and I used to work in auto repair where anything/everything that’s equipped with heated seats or custom LCD dash displays would make its way to me within a 3 to 5 yr period. Dealer warranties for most cars really didn’t cover electronics unless powertrain related (not sure how it is recently, but no innovations will fix that law of constant expansion & contraction via temperature fluctuation will equal deterioration).

If it’s a car that’s iconic and easy to work on, then for sure buy. Currently saving up to buy my nephew and niece two miatas and having them do most of the restoration themselves so when they are old enough for their licenses they’ll appreciate their vehicles more than the average Joe n’ Jane.

I've always bought my cars. Not only do I enjoy the flexibility of no mileage constraints (I love to drive), but I also enjoy tinkering a bit with my cars. My last car (2012 VW GTI) was modified significantly, but my current Toyota 4Runner has only one modification (the TRD grill).

I do always intend to keep them, as tech isn't all that important to me provided I can feed music into my car in some way.

I leased the last few cars. I understand the car game fairly well and I did listen to Dave Ramsey and I agree with him for the most part. However, if you negotiate a strong money factor and buy at invoice a lease can be a good option if you like to turn cars fairly quickly and do not drive too many miles annually. The cars I drive I do not want to own out of warranty. If a CPO was available and equipped how I wanted it, I would go slightly used but I rarely find used vehicles equipped the way I want. The last 3 cars were ordered so I could pick the options. LOL, wish I was less picky, it would save me a ton of dough...

Used to lease then decided I didn't like the idea of having a car payment forever. Financed my wife's used Toyota Highlander and my new Toyota 4Runner. I figured Toyota would give us the most longevity.

My plan is to drive the 4Runner for 10 years then hand the keys to my son when he turns 16.

I also just paid cash for a '95 Jeep Wrangler YJ as a weekend cruiser. It will help keep the miles down on our other cars.

Buy and try to drive as long as possible. Haven't had a car not reach 100k miles. Even my Q7 is about to roll 100k.

I have always bought my cars because I usually get fully loaded cars that are 3 years old with a warranty for a comparable payment to leasing a newer car with less options. My wife's work gives her a car allowance but requires she drive a new car with mileage restrictions. To protect against getting screwed if I bought a car and it was hit and shows an accident on the carfax, I leased her Audi this time around for 3 years/45k miles. I think in certain applications leases work wonderfully.

Not fond of debt. If I can’t write a check for something, I don’t buy it. Cash is king. Everything we own. Not sure if it’s the smartest move financially, but I sleep well.

We own 2 and have a work lease. I change every ~100k Miles. Weekender only gets a few thousand miles a year. My wife just uses the work car for everything. They say that’s fine.
