Cool models and good bokeh ...

Bokeh with this lens (nikon 18/200 VR II) may be a bit harsh. Anyway, I like how these came out ... Just don't try to find a good background with 300 million people @ magic kingdom during holiday weekend!

Thanks Eric.

Funny, except for my son, I don't really care about subject ... i am just happy when a pic comes out cool looking.

Superb results for the 18-200. I would have guessed this was from the 50mm 1.4 Nikon.

Thanks guys.

It is harder for me to get this kind of shot with the 50 1.4 (which I own). I don't seem to be able to isolate the subject while keeping it within the depth of field (i.e. all in focus).

With the 18/200 you don't even sweat it, just go to 200 wide open (5.6 at that range ... maybe a few stops slower as well) and step further away a few yards. You get great isolation while keeping the entire subject in focus. It is far from a pro lens ... not very sharp at that distance and bokeh is not perfect, but it works pretty well for me. The 50 1.4 is hard to use (for me anyway) ... you can always close it up a bit of course, but at 50mm I can't get the same isolation / DOF balance.

The Nikon 200 f2.8 is the king! I just can't justify the price tag for my needs, not to mention size and weight!

I'm guessing the 50mm 1.4 stops down to f16 while the 200mm being slower stops down to f22.

To get max DOF you'd want to get to f32-64 if possible. So cheaper older slower lenses can give you greater DOF.

Yip. I was talking about a blurry background while keeping the entire subject in focus. 200mm makes it easy, even at f8 ...

Foreground AND background in focus are easy :)
