Just realized I never posted pics when I got mine a few weeks back!

Popped it off the factory strap and paired it with a previously broken in rough Hodinkee strap. Wears like a dream.

New Breitling Navitimer Re-Edition

This is a throwback but it doesn’t apply to timing phone calls IMHO.

Rather it is an homage to a time when navigation was accomplished manually. LORAN came into use in the 1940’s and revolutionized air navigation. This required new training and a process that was repeatable.

A pilot had 3 minutes to plot a LORAN LOP for ground waves and make 3 successive readings to eliminate any uncorrected errors. For sky waves, this was expected in 4 minutes with the same triple checks. (I do not know why it took longer to get a fix with sky waves, but maybe a NAV instructor will come along and explain that part.)

Benrus also did a watch in the 1940’s just for that purpose and hashed at 4-8-12 minutes.

Here is a little more about the Benrus and navigation: https://nawcc.pastperfectonline.com/...3-934361395544

Even before LORAN, pilots took measurements the old-fashioned way: a sextant. Navigation tables advised that readings should be taken at least every four minutes. Then using the angle of the sun (or Polaris, at night) between the horizon and gauge the airplane’s position.

Sky waves were especially important in areas where LORAN ground waves weren’t available due to widely dispersed towers like the early deployment days and even later in certain undeveloped countries.

The Navitimer was invented in 1952 and for more commercial air pilots who flew in developed countries where the ground wave method was preferred for accuracy - thus the 3-6-9 hashes.

Just my 2¢ - not a pilot but have stayed in a few Holiday Inns...

Interesting! I got into aviation towards the end of LORAN. By that time it was all automated

They also had the gold version available. Limited to 159 pieces.

Here is the steel and the rose gold side by side.
I asked them to put the brown strap on the steel version to see how it looks.

Congratulations! Great combo with that brown strap!

I'm wearing mine today. I just took this shot, which appears to line up horizontally:

That looks very close to the original strap combo! Great choice!

Just put a Navitimer bracelet on the 806 and I could not be happier. It took a watchmaker to custom fit the end links to the case, but was well worth it.

I am glad that Breitling chose to stay true with the solid dial (though blue) on the platinum version, as opposed to the panda dial on the RG version.

Merry Christmas to all!

Huge congrats!

I agree with you on the solid dial. I had a chance to buy the RG version, but I preferred the dial of the Steel one which is also true to the original version.

Merry Christmas!

Thank you Skyrider! Yes I had originally ordered a RG version of the watch, but when I saw it had the panda dial I lost interest. When I found out about the platinum version with the solid dial, I asked my AD to order one for me.

Very very nice!

I’m thinking about putting my steel version on a spare black deployment Breitling strap

New Breitling Navitimer that will be shown at Basel 2019. It’s the 1959 homage to the famous Navitimer from the 60s. It has the original dimensions at the Reference 806 (41mm with bezel) and is powered by the Breitling Caliber B09 which is derived from their B01 movement. Hand applied lume and a nice vintage OEM strap.

I think it looks great!

This is awesome. As a kid window shopping and not knowing anything about watches I always loved the navitimer

Picked up my rose gold version a few weeks ago and really enjoying it.
The boutique was also able to get me a very meaningful limited edition number that I requested.

Absolutely gorgeous. Like this one more than the more monotone SS.

Breitling are value destroyers 35% down out the door if you’re lucky

This has a nice dial but depending on your needs - no date

No date is a good thing.

Show me a single 806 reedition piece anywhere in the world you can buy for 35% off. In any case, if your interest in life is acquiring assets that will only increase in price, stick to property and consolidated equities my friend. Buy watches to enjoy them.

I was offered it three times so far, I really like it, but without a substantial discount, it is not worth it, in my book. I think the right price for this piece would have been around $6,000 - for me with tax at a local shop it would have been north of $9,000.

Also, the action of the chronograph was surprisingly stiff and hard to operate when I handled the watch - anyone else experiencing that?

Both of mine the SS and Plat. models came with a discount. Breitling hyped this piece as being sold out and difficult to come by, however the reality is they are available through AD's and were even available for a time online through Breitling.com.

i've seen it sitting in displays cases in two different ADs within a month

I think they can be easily gotten

i told one AD that i'd think about it and he said no problem and that he can easily get another one if the current one got sold.

Just found it in breitling boutique in dubai (mall of the Emirates). I think you can get 10-15% discount and tax free. I was told they got 6 pieces but they did not mention how many were sold. I asked the reason they suddenly became very easy to get, the answer was that breitling intended to sell it online + boutiques that is why they were scarce in the start because they held the amount of pieces that were meant to be sold online. However, due to reasons he didn't know, they couldn't sell online and the pieces were back to boutiques and ADs. Not sure how true this story is.

Is it just me or are the minute number indicators not exactly centered on the re-edition? For example, the 55 number that denotes the 55th minute on the dial is not centered between the 54th and 56th line indicators.
