This 1964 Seiko Champion is living up to its name, and putting up some pretty solid numbers for its age. I was going to get it serviced but I don't think I'll bother now.

Thanks, yes I've had it for a few months already but only just put it on the machine after noticing it wasn't really gaining or losing any time. It's 54 years old, but I don't think it was worn very often, as the caseback is still unusually well defined for its age.

Incredible accuracy - And beautiful to boot! I've never looked into this era Seiko deeply enough to see the caseback - very distinct. A champion indeed!

Thank you. The Seiko caseback seahorse was the emblem for waterproof handwinding watches in those days.

Me too. My new Turtle's beat error is 1.8

Seiko was really killing it with their mechanical movements in the 60s and 70s, especially in the Grand and King Seikos. Then quartz came along and they stopped developing them.

Thats a great check tool, it will help let you know when a watch needs to be serviced and when not.

The thing is if one keeps wearing a watch when it needs a service then one can cause great wear and tear to parts which may not otherwise have needed to be replaced when service does eventually take place.
