Rolex 16610 box reference

Hi guys.

I've done a bunch of searching but I'm not finding anything.

My reasoning is I'm trying to determine the "correct" box for a U serial 16610. It's an August '97 serial and I'm not sure which box, (or perhaps more than one would have been used), is correct for the production time.

I think it might be a 68.00.55 (~1995), but I've seen 68.00.71 with papers as late as 1996. Usually these are earlier (~1993) Hence my confusion.

Other data I have suggests 68.00.02 is early (~1993) and 68.00.08 is late (~2000)

I know there was a good deal of overlap on boxes, as they were combined with watches at the retailer, but was hoping for some solid data to determine the most likely box set.

Thanks guys!

I'm no expert on boxes but always thought the box for a U to Y serial prof model was “68.00.01“.

Granted, I’ve read dealers didn’t always give the correct box when selling watches before 2005 and prior.

Boxes were made in different parts of the world, so say a box for a sub bought in the USA could have a different number from the rest of the world.Watches like the sub came in small boxes, a period box for the watch in question would be more important than a bunch of numbers.
